Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens. Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years. Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination. Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

Taitua Arboretum is a 20-hectare (49-acre) tree collection just out of Hamilton City. The Arboretum has several lakes and a good network of walking tracks. It is a popular spot for Sunday afternoon picnics and weekend weddings.
On a very windy the Aboretum walk was well protected from wind and sun and much enjoyed by my leashed dog and I. I was lovely to meander amongst the gardens. It is well sign posted and a reasonably easy walk. Loved seeing a pair of free roaming rabbits, along with many chooks.

Open every day from 10am - 5pm. The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum is a unique art-in-nature experience with more than 100 sculptures along the 2km long nature trail. The park is set in a former quarry that has been transformed into a 17.5 hectare arboretum with more than 20,000 trees. We provide families with a range of ideas to make the most of their visit. This art-in-nature experience aims to inspire imaginations, nourish inquisitive minds, and provide for creative learning in an accessible wilderness environment.
We visited on our second visit to Hamilton as it fell on a Sunday. The park and arboretum is open on Sundays and bank holidays and features 100 pieces of very varying sculpture in terms of size and materials and placed among the beautifully set out arboreal pathways (more than 20,000 trees and shrubs) and around small ponds and lakes in a disused quarry. This is a family owned collection and is in my view an act of generosity on their part to the public and a real privilege to visit. There is a wealth of bird life to be seen and heard throughout the walk and the views of the surrounding countryside are lovely. In case you hadn't realised I absolutely loved it.
