Why not combine our two most popular tours into one? See the sights of the historic port city of Halifax and then take in the famous breathtaking sights of Peggy's Cove. Our tour would commence from Pier 21 with its Historic block as the "Ellis Island" of Canada, where more than one million immigrants came through and more than 500,000 left from during WWII. From there we will visit St. Paul's Church, the oldest Anglican church in Canada. As well, St. Paul's Church was among some of the buildings that withstood the Great Halifax Explosion of 1917. We will drive on to Fort Needham Hill where a memorial carillon was built for the victims of that explosion. Then we'll be on to Canada's most famous lighthouse. Peggy's Cove is one of the most unique, captivating and exhilarating eye-openers in Nova Scotia. The quaint seaside hamlets of Shad Bay, Big Lake, East Dover and West Dover, to mention but a few, are also breathtaking.

My girlfriends and I had great day with Grape Escapes! The pick-up at our hotel in Halifax was very convenient. Our driver JD, was fantastic! I loved her knowledge of wines and her energy. I would highly recommend this tour. We had lovely visits with the wineries, and a lovely lunch at the Church Brewery. Everything was very well organized, even if things are a bit different because of Covid. Thank you for a memorable day, during a pandemic.

The best part of this tour is the down-home hospitality Sam tries to deliver with every ride. There is no real set schedule, so we have a bit more flexibility in how we do things. Get to know other travelers and share once in a lifetime experiences along the way.

We went for a round trip drive on Alternative Routes back in May. Sam was attentive and easy to deal with when we booked our journey, and friendly and knowledgeable when we met up to drive around southern Nova Scotia. She knows lots of people in each of the towns we stopped at, and you can tell that she really cares about the communities and introducing her customers to what they have to offer. We had a great time and great conversation on the way back. We were very pleased to have booked with her, and would recommend Alternative Routes to anyone visiting Halifax.

Driver/guide (Colleen) excellent ... bus (Se-bus-tian) comfortable - USB ports for charging phones/cameras would be nice ???? - water ????. Wineries: Benjamin-Bridge excellent in every way .. Genny superb (knowledgeable, clear, timing perfect!), wines wonderful, ambience the best (under construction but still enjoyable). Luckett Winery great as well .. location, product selection and ambience perfect. Wine steward not tops .. upset with me as I accidentally broke a glass and not a lot of commentary. Pours much more “conservative” than BB. Lunch, however, superb with generous sandwiches, salad and nice glass of wine or beer. Nice addition to see and chat with Pete Luckett ???? Gaspereau Winery: nice but not as impressed with this stop. Wine steward rushed us and we felt like we were bothering her. Pours were the stingiest of the tour. Nice room out back which we were not taken to or shown .. that would have been a great place to have a tasting instead out out in the cold by a metal table.
