I came to Fukuoka when I first studied abroad in Japan in 2015. As part of a school field trip, we came to this shop to paint our own Hakata Doll and to learn about Fukuoka's unique culture. When I came here, I was in awe. Not only do they sell dolls, but they also sell accessories like ties, wallets, keychains, and handbags. There was one doll I liked, but I didn't like the color of the kimono she was wearing. I told myself that if she had been painted red and blue, I would have bought her in a heartbeat. I had limited room in my suitcase, so I decided to buy a smaller doll for my neighbor who's grandparents were from Fukuoka. Never the less, I never forgot this amazing shop. In 2018 I came back to Hakata for vacation, and I stopped by this shop again. All the dolls seemed to be the same as before, but one caught my eye. The same doll I saw 3 years ago was on display, but this time she was painted in red and blue! She was about ¥9,700, and while she has a few imperfections, I think it only adds to her charm. Some dolls go for has high as ¥262,500. The more expensive the doll, the more detailed and flawless it is. What's nice about this shop is that it's only 10-minutes away from Canal City on foot. You can stop there first and eat, shop around, and then come here. This is the place to buy more authentic Japanese souvenirs. You won't be disappointed! I promise you, you won't find other dolls like these in the rest of Japan!

Artas Gallery

This art gallery opened in November 2019 in Fukuoka. With the theme of "thinking", the gallery introduces artists who express their own unique sensibilities, which we don't have the opportunity to come into contact with in our standardized Japanese society, and conveys the importance of thinking for ourselves and expanding our world.
