The summit area of Mt. Hachimantai has a network of very well-maintained trails that are mostly stone or wood, so even in wet weather you don't have to worry about mud. The trails circle a number of pristine ponds and allow you to explore an alpine wetland. I've been up here dozens of times and love it. If you go in the early spring it's still covered in snow and you can walk around in snow shoes or boots. In the summer there are all kinds of flowers blooming, and in the fall you get all the beauty of the fall colors. (The road up to the summit closes for the winter, making it basically inaccessible until April 15th when it opens again for the spring.)

This bridge is located at the intersection of Route 212 and the road leading to Hachimantai Spa Village. It takes roughly 8 minutes and 20 minutes to walk to the bridge from Hachimantai Royal hotel and Hachimantai Resort hotel respectively. The panoramic view of coloured mountains rolling into the horizon is a definite “must-see” if you are in this area during autumn. The vista seems to be quite ordinary without the colourful autumn foliage, though. Winds can be fairly strong on the bridge because of the deep gorge.

This area right at the foot of Mt. Iwate marks where a volcanic eruption covered the area in magma 300 years ago. If you're not used to volcanoes, it's pretty impressive. There is a walkway that goes through the center of the volcanic rocks and takes you to some nice observation decks. There's also a trailhead to hike up to the summit of Mt. Iwate here, as well as public bathrooms and a car camp area.

APPI is located in latitude 40° N whereworld'sfamous ski resorts such as Austria's Arlbergand USA's Aspen are located. Enjoy outdoor leisure activity in magnificent nature. There are the various items for families and couples. In the case of bad weather, APPI resort also has a lot of enjoyable indoor items for children and adults!
I stayed for seven days of skiing, the room and services was truly excellent. With plenty of amenities and stuff to do beside skiing. The hotels foods and gifts shops is the best that I have ever seen for a Japanese ski resort. Their outdoor onsen which is a short bus ride away is a must. Their central food court is highly recommended if you are on a budget. Unfortunately this was truly a bad year for snow sports here. The conditions was icy on the lower half of the mountain., due to the warm winter. Hopefully global warming will skip next year. I would definitely come back again. Please be aware slow chairlift due to a lot of beginners and first time skiers and snowboarders.
