I was very fortunate to have Mario (the owner) as my guide, and he provided me with an exceptional experience today!!! Mario was nice, friendly and extremely knowledgeable in the local flora and fauna, and he made it very clear his primary interest was in my satisfaction with a memorable visit to Ecuador. First, we visited the Lara family farm where Mario and Alberto showed me how cocoa is made into dark chocolate bars and tasty hot chocolate beverages, and we even had an authentic home cooked Ecuadorian dish made by Ninfa Lara (who was also very friendly and welcoming, and an outstanding chef). After lunch, Mario and Jairo Lara took me to the protected forest of Churute for a small hike, where we found more than 12 howler monkeys, which was an amazing experience to hear them screaming and producing sounds so loud it makes them appear much larger than what they are!!! Then we also rented a motor boat and toured the mangrove forest preserve to look for exotic birds and crocodiles. I can say without a doubt you WILL NOT be disappointed with your experience by booking with this company!!!

This was a great way to see the city in air conditioned comfort. Our tour guide is a retired airline pilot with perfect English and a great deal of knowledge regarding the city. We opted for the breakfast/lunch tour. We toured spots outside of the usual “tourists traps”. Lunch was perfection! We ate local cuisine at a corner cafe and the owner explained each dish in great detail. Don’t leave Guayaquil without taking this tour.

We had a couple of free days in Guayaquil and I reached out to Eduardo at Guayaquil A Guided Visit to set u a couple of tours. His response was quick and full of information and suggestions. We chose to do a full day Churute Mangrove/Cacao Farm visit one day, followed by a half day city tour, including a hike up Cerro Paraiso, the next. The mangrove/cacao farm tour was amazing. We saw lots of wildlife along the way, and Eddie was very knowledgeable about the ecosystem and about the animals we encountered during the tour. There was quite a diversity of bird species. The cacao farm was fun and educational. When we arrived, we were treated to an amazing lunch, followed by a tour of the family run farm. The host very passionate about his work and we learned the chocolate process from beginning to end. The tour culminated with us making and eating our own chocolate bars. It was very cool. The second day Eddie took us to Cerro Paraiso, a park in the center of Guayaquil. We climbed up a hill that offered excellent city views and lots of wildlife. It was like an oasis in the heart of the city. We finished our tour by visiting several sites around the city center. Eddie is very knowledgeable about the history of the city, and he imparts that knowledge in a fun, yet educational way. I would highly recommend reaching out to Eddie if you have some free time in Guayaquil. You will not be disappointed!

SOUTHERN ANDES Devil’s Nose Alausí – Sibambe – Alausí The biggest complication faced by the construction of the Trans-Andean railroad was the Devil’s Nose, a mountain with almost perpendicular walls. To overcome this obstacle a zigzag railroad was bulit that climbs more than 500 meters in less than 12 km with steep ascents and descents. It today remains an impressive piece of engineering. While recovering from the mind-blowing descent you will enjoy the views of the narrow gorge of river Chanchán and will have the chance to learn a bit about the traditions and worldview of the Puruhuas in Sibambe.
