It is bordered to the west by Manabí, Santa Elena, and the Pacific Ocean (as the Gulf of Guayaquil); to the east by Los Ríos, Bolívar, Chimborazo, Cañar, and Azuay; to the north by Los Ríos and Bolívar; and to the south by El Oro and the Pacific Ocean.

This beautiful Catholic church located on Calle Chimborazo across from the famous Seminario (Iguana) Park is a rebuild (between 1924 and 1937) after the original church, made of wood, burned down in 1892. The rebuild, in neo gothic style, was carried out by Italian artisans using local marble. The incredible marble flooring was somewhat empty of seating (being cleaned) the day I visited so to see it in all its glory was spectacular. Then there are the many beautiful stained glass windows. There during the afternoon, there were people coming and going to pray in the small side chapels.
