Best known for its Festival Cervantino, an arts festival that draws attendance from around the world, Guanajuato is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its old town dates back to the 16th century, and you can visit many of Mexico’s important religious and artistic sites. Guanajuato was also home to the Mexican independence movement and the site of the first failed rebellion against colonial rule.

We are a new art gallery in the center of Guanajuato city. Our artists are graduates or students of art universities in the country. We are a creative company that encourages artists to fulfill their dreams. EVA is a creative space that you have to visit to learn about the emerging art of Mexico.
Art from across Mexico, Latin America, Canada the USA and beyond, the atmosphere in Envision Arte is warm, informed and connected. Gibran welcomed us with a personal tour and stories about each of the featured artists. Later, we enjoyed a miraculous opening with tequila, rich (bi-lingual) conversation and a range of genre-bending works. Highly recommended for art lovers and also emerging artists interested in showing work.

We work with different traditional engraving techniques to create pieces in craft prints on paper, mostly skulls, wrestlers, prehispanic gods, bestiaries and contemporary graphics. We also have pieces of more Mexican artists because of our invitations to work together in our workshop. Original works.

Also called the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo. This is not really a museum in the traditional sense—it's a private gallery devoted to the works of an artist and his friends. As such, you really have to think of it as an art installation. The artist behind Primer Deposito is Capelo (Javier de Jesús Hernández Martínez). He might be Guanajuato's best artist. In one room of the gallery you will find many fine, traditional ceramic pieces for home use. This is his commercial work, made in a fabrica just outside the city. The rest of the museo is devoted to his personal work, and it changes over time. On our most recent visit, one room was devoted to life-size horse heads in clay space so close together than you have to pay attention to where you walk. Another room had large abstract ceramic statues. Also on display were bronzes and wall-size ceramic "paintings." Capelo's work is filled with details and layers—the more you look the more you will see. However, don't expect anyone to tell you what any of it means. For 15 pesos admission, you have to do that work for yourself.

Inaugurated only in March 2018, this is the newest museum in Guanajuato and it is well worth visiting. Mansion built in 1802 transformed into museum/art gallery, both historic and contemporary. Well maintained and very low price ($1.25 USD) it is worth about an hour of your time... Part of the historical lore says that the wife of the owner, (Count Rul who was known for his many love affairs with other women), kept using the back door to go in/out of the building to avoid the jokes of the people.

Contemporary Art Gallery focused on the projection of the local art of the city. The gallery is divided into three spaces; Gabinete, where more than twelve emerging artists exhibit, Temporary Exhibitions Space: where there is room for independent projects of artists and curators, which change monthly and finally a workshop area: for work and to impart workshops with specialized artists.
