Located in the historical village of Morpeth in the Lower Hunter Valley, Morpeth Gallery has an excellent selection of fine traditional Australian landscape & wildlife art by internationally and nationally acclaimed artists. The gallery specialises in investment art with pieces which appreciate over time. The gallery opened in 1991 as a part of the Campbell's Store Craft Centre complex.
Morpeth has a number of very interesting places to visit and wander through both on the Main Street and in the little laneways. This gallery is one of those side excursions that will reward your time with a number of experiences. There is something for just about everyone including artworks, toys and local foods. I was impressed with the ginger beer tastings and left with a number of bottles.

Studio Amsterdam shows the artworks of Patricia Van Lubeck. Realism, Surrealism and Magic realism. Patricia’s recently created oil paintings are all about ‘individualism’. Human characteristics translated into slightly neo-surrealistic landscapes. Most of the people can associate themselves with one of the trees in the paintings. The trees are performing like actors.

Visited the restaurant there and then the gallery. There was a focus on local artists from young children onwards. The display easy to walk around and well sorted in genre and aspect.

Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery is an exceptional cultural and tourist destination, widely recognised for its exhibition program and work with the community. Located on the shores of Australia's largest coastal saltwater lake, the leafy grounds include the award-winning gallery with state-of-the-art seminar facilities, a sculpture park, mosaic pathways, and the historic Awaba House Restaurant Cafe. Lake Macquarie is unique among regional galleries due to its location and quality of programming. Touring shows alternate with gallery-curated exhibitions featuring nationally significant artists, many of whom share a connection with the Hunter. Contemporary visual arts, craft and design practice is the main focus of our exhibitions, and respectful Aboriginal projects are a strong component of the program. The gallery can be reached easily via the lake foreshore cycleway, the water or by public transport. image caption: Janet Laurence,'Ghost',2009, glass, stainless steel, concrete, approx. 500 x 140 x 80cm, copyright the artist
