Beautiful wild gardens restored to former glory. Sit on the lawns with a picnic basket or explore the hills and look for James Delaney's lazer cut animals hidden between the plants. Stunning views over Jozi from the Sundial.

This is a great place to visit to see the history of mankind as well as the history of freedom. It tells a powerful story in such a beautiful setting. It is well worth a visit and is very educational. Take the guided tour inside the museum, it is worth it.

Really great short excursion for reptile-mad kids. Very well maintained by knowledgeable enthusiasts who clearly have the animals’ best interests at heart. Our son was especially keen on spending most of his time studying the black mamba and other venomous snakes - very exciting! We also got to hold various animals, zip line over the croc enclosures, and top of the day with a pretty decent pizza. Would highly recommend.

What a pleasure to hike here. Municipal Nature Reserve - free entry. Easy green route and return with easy blue route - ony challenge is to cross the rIver at silent pools! Nice light lunch at cafeteria afterwards.

We are avid birders and are embarrassed to admit that in all the years we have lived in Johannesburg we have failed to visit this bird sanctuary. It's a tiny piece of birding paradise that overflows with bird life. The wetlands have become smaller pools that attract a myriad of aquatic life all easily viewed from the comfort of your car. We spotted flamingos, avocets and gallinules among the more common teals, moorhen and red knobbed coots. The sanctuary may be a mere 10 square kilometres but we spent several hours entranced and enthralled. And it is free. Don't forget to bird spot as you drive towards the sanctuary. The pools alongside the road are also busy with feathered species - glossy and bald ibis in stately search of food, widow birds flapping inelegantly above the grasslands and stonechats decorate the fencing.

This really is a beautiful reserve with so much space to walk and a lovely little dam to sit near and perhaps have a picnic. I'll definitely be coming back.
