The Makhubu family's close links with South Africa's history became iconic when a photograph of the body of a young boy, named Hector Pieterson, being carried to safety by a Makhubu family member during the Soweto uprising caught the attention of the world's media. The Makhubu family continued to remain immersed in the historical events of South African struggle years and the transformation that followed. It is this person and deep involvement that makes Makhubu a leading tour company able to offer unique and informative insights into South Africa's people, culture and landscape, both past and present. From the beginning of humankind through the sequence of important and intriguing incidents that have followed, each of the tours reveal aspects from evolution to revolution, leading to apartheid and the transformation that has occurred on the communities and the country of South Africa. Each journey is an enlightening footstep of discovery.

We did some tours with the guide Zongezile and he was absolutely incredible; full of great energy, passion and detailed knowledge; and he was amazingly patient and helpful with both my four year old daughter and my 75 year old mother. We had such amazing experiences that we did several tours with him; all around his home area of Soweto, which he and his mother have a most personal story to tell which has been made world famous by an iconic photo of the Soweto June 1976 uprising; we also did the Joburg CBD, and all the Nelson Mandela trail as well as a great tour out to Pretoria and to the lion safari park. Can not recommend highly enough; young or old, seasoned or new to traveling; this tour company will not disappoint, and the prices fairly compare with the rest.

I had a really great time on this safari. The guides were really knowledgeable, and I learned a lot. We saw so many animals!! It was a dream come true. The stop at Blyde Canyon on the way back is a nice plus as well. All staff was nice and friendly; great driver Tabo, excellent cook Tiger, and super field guides and bushmen Raymond and Talli. Thank you to Nyarai and Luca as well. I only have a small complaint: even for a "budget" safari, I find it absurd that drinking water it's not included in the meals that were provided. I understand for soft drinks and others but water should be included.

I highly recommend this tour. Norman, my guide for the day, came to the hotel to pick me up. We drove to the Apartheid museum where he left me inside to explore. 2.5 hours later we met outside and were on our way to Soweto. Touring the various neighborhoods in Soweto gave me a great overall view of the area. We stopped at the Hector Peterson memorial and then at the Mandela house. At the end, Norman drove me back to the hotel. Norman was a very charming guide and very knowledgeable of the history of the area.

My boyfriend and I did all our tours with Nic from Africa Moja Tours & Transfers-Cradle of Human Kind, Lesedi, Soweto, and Pretoria. We were very nervous booking tours as it was all last minute and we did not have a lot of time to research. However, our first day went so great with Nic that we booked another day. He is a very safe driver, incredibly knowledgeable and smart, and a great person to hang out with while touring the area. Nic and the tours were truly one of the highlights of our three week trip in South Africa and I would highly recommend using this company and Nic for your tours. I am so grateful we had an incredible experience on our first time visiting.
