The Rare and Beautiful is a Tasmanian family run business that designs and manufactures a range of contemporary jewellery lines. Mel and Christo are both trained gemmologists, jewellers and gem cutters. The aim of our business is to make jewellery from rare and beautiful materials we either find ourselves or source on our travels. Our jewellery showcases a unique range of Tasmania's gems and fossils
I was lucky enough to have Mel and Chris make my beautiful engagement ring and wedding band. It was such an honor to have local jewelers source local stones to make my set. My engagement ring stone is a amazing Killiecrankie diamond that was sourced from Flinders island and my wedding band is sterling silver. Communication and helpful tips regarding care etc is spot on form these guys. If I need anything else custom made down the track I will definitely be coming back to the Rare and beautiful.

Salamanca Market is one of Australia’s most vibrant and loved outdoor markets and is located at historic Salamanca Place, next to the Hobart waterfront. With over 300 stallholders, it’s an experience that’s hard to beat. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, a smaller interim market will be held instead of the full Salamanca Market. Tasmania’s Own Market is a selection of your favourite Salamanca Market stallholders and is held each Saturday from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm. Our new look market consists of around 80 stallholders representing artisans, designers and producers - it’s as Tasmanian as we can make it. You will find fresh produce from local growers, hot coffee and delicious breakfast and lunch options to enjoy, lots of gift ideas and plenty of handmade products. Salamanca Market will return in full as soon as state government conditions allow.

Island Markets in the Hobart suburb of Moonah is the largest indoor market in Tasmania
They have a lot of varieties of fresh fish, I even bought whole tuna there. Good value for money. I used to see varieties of fish sold in Hobart wharf in the 80's but now there's only a few. I think it's unfair to compare the market with fish market in other states. I cook a special Tuna dish and I need a whole fish for it. I prefer whole fish than skinned or filleted as most Asians like me.
A mid week market with fresh produce straight from the farm . We have homemade Jam chutney and relish, cakes, biscuits and slices. Fresh cut flowers, Fresh roasted coffee to take home and some handmade goods. There are local artisans so come and meet the makers and grab a special gift for someone special in your life.
