Hundreds of carved figures and pieces of old scrap perform an incredible choreography to haunting music and synchronised light, telling the funny and tragic stories of the human spirit as it struggles against the relentless circles of life and death. Audiences in many countries have been fascinated by its magic. In Glasgow it has gained a reputation as one of the city’s hidden treasures. A truly unforgettable cultural experience: the pieces are rich with symbolism and the accompaniment of music, lights and movement turned it into a performance that was both touching and entertaining. The gallery manager was enthusiastic and informative in his explanations on the art pieces; and he was attentive and professional in regards to all the measures put in place for Covid-19 safety. I would definitely recommend Sharmanka to anyone looking for a cultural experience in Glasgow!

Britannia Panopticon Music Hall

Britannia Panopticon is the worlds oldest surviving music hall. It opened in 1857 above a pub called the Britannia Vaults and it served the working classes who made Glasgow the Industrial Capital of the World. For over 80 years Britannia entertained, and in addition to being a music hall, the building also accommodated early cinema, wax works, carnival amusements, freak show and basement zoo. Famous debut performances include Stan Laurel in 1906 and Jack Buchanan in 1911. Open Tuesday-Saturday noon-5pm (unless a show is programmed) for general viewing. Britannia Panopticon is also open for music hall shows, silent movie and Laurel & Hardy film nights, marts, festivals and other events. Admission is generally free (we charge to get out). Please donate when you visit to help us raise money to conserve this wonderful historic survivor from the heyday of music hall and early cinema. Britannia Panopticon is also available for private hire (conditions apply).

Old Fruitmarket

Reviewed By JoanneMcT - Darlington, United Kingdom

My husband got me tickets for Brittany Howard at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow so we could make it a weekend trip and what a place to go for a gig! You walk in the doors of what looks like a modern civic centre then through a door into an old wooden auditorium made from old fruit market stalls, it looks amazing and the acoustics for Brittany's voice was just amazing! Loved it and I would put it up there with Barrowlands for one of the top places for gigs!

Wild Cabaret & Wicked Lounge

Reviewed By W2250VQelaineg - Helensburgh, United Kingdom

Got a Groupon deal for cocktails in lounge, and followed by Groupon deal for Show and steak frites for dinner and Show. What an amazing evening, cocktails were delicious and staff were warm and welcoming, venue is very Art Deck and swish. We arrived at 6 and there was a very talented singer keeping us entertained whilst we sipped our cocktails. We then went yo the cabaret lounge next door and were seated at a table at the front from the very start the staff were very attentive and engaging which was from start to finish (We were last to leave at 11pm) the manager even offered a different seat if we liked for a better view to make sure we were happy. The acts were absolutely first class, and the breaks in between gave time for comfort breaks and the evening went by far too fast. The showgirls took time to chat to all the guests which was a lovely touch to make the audience feel part if the show.Dinner was preset with voucher for steak frites and what a perfect cut of steak it was absolutely delicious. I did check other guests meals and then gave in for the trio of desserts...heaven on a slate! All in all we absolutely love this venue and will definitely be planning further visits to wicked lounge, thank you. I recommend this treat highly
