My partner and I very much enjoyed our recent visit to the House for an Art Lover. We felt safe, the staff were excellent, the afternoon tea scrumptious and the music room beautiful. Thank you for providing such a lovely, peaceful atmosphere.

You can walk here from the centre of town or get a bus or a train - one of the ones heading south from Glasgow Central or by bus on Jamaica street. Here it's simply a must see in terms of one of Greek Thomson's masterpiece, especially interesting in the evening. In fact one part of the year they have a kind of night show with lights - but you would need to check on that.

Govan Old Parish Church

This small church houses the Govan stones. They are Viking rune and early Celtic. The church itself is fantastic. The church is 4 minutes walk from Govan subway station. I would do this, then the Fairfield shipping museum (another 5 mins walk) too. Please, don’t miss this. It is a hidden gem in Glasgow. Definitely recommend

The Pearce Institute

The 'PI' as she is known locally is an 'A' Listed building completed in 1906 and designed by Sir Rowand Anderson. Gifted to the people of Govan by Lady Pearce, it remains a vibrant community centre open to all. The first stage of massive restoration work included a new roof and stonework repair. Even the famous ship sculpture was repaired and replaced so make sure you look up ! Inside there are plenty of architectural delights to remind you what a famous building this is . Some fine halls and rooms( often used for local events) with other areas permanently leased as office space. It's vast inside and obviously sensitive restoration takes time and depends on generous funding . I just loved it all ! The cafe is the heart of the community and as I started my wonderful day in Govan here, I chose to finish it here as well. Great food and service in a really friendly atmosphere. Thanks to the wonderful Betty R at reception who took time to show me round the building and who is a 'PI' and Govan Mastermind . If you plan a trip to Govan to visit Fairfield and the famous Stones at the Old Church then drop in here first to taste the history and the coffee.

Holmwood House

Masterfully designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, Holmwood is a family home with grand imagination behind it. Cupolas, columns and floor-to-ceiling windows exude elegance, while the bold opulent decoration echoes the colours found in ancient Greek temples. 2017 is Thomson's bicentennial year. The property is celebrating this through a year long special events programme, check the NTS website for details. Recent recreation of the magnificent original stencil decorative scheme in the Dining room allows appreciation of the intended vision of Thomson and on going work to continue the recreation will be progressing throughout 2017.

Visited today and boy ,it did not disappoint. Firstly we had the most knowledgeable of volunteers tell us about the house and made it come alive . Whoever you are , a gentleman on Sunday duty, thank you . The way this house has been brought back to its former glory has been painstakingly done , and is still getting worked on . The history behind it is worth looking into and yoi will appreciate it all the more . I would recommend this house . Took about 45 to look around it and time we'll spent
