Accra Central Mosque

Reviewed By Z9892CTsergiob - Accra, Ghana

I was sitting in a tro tro on a torrid December afternoon moving from Nima to Accra. I was asleep when I opened my eyes and saw the Blue Mosque of Istanbul. I was baffled but soon I realized that it was no dream and that I was not in Istanbul. In Accra there is a perfect copy of the Blue Mosque. Don't you believe it? Then go and see it!

Larabanga Mosque

Perhaps Larabanga's most notable landmark, the Mosque is believed by some to date back to 1421.

Hi there I visited the north of this wonderful country in November. This was the middle part of my journey through Ghana as a backpacker. It is even hotter than in the south, savanna landscape replaces the rainforest, the villages are usually made of round huts with thatched roofs. People may be even friendlier and more welcoming compaired to the South. After a short stay in Tamale I traveled all the way by Tro-Tro via Damongo Junction to Damongo and from there on by Yellow-Yellow to Larabanga and finally to Mole National Park. There I stayed for a few days in the really recommended motel. In addition to the drive or foot safaris in the actual national park (the longer the dry season lasts, the greater the likelihood of seeing elephants up close) I can only recommend tours to the surrounding area. I was fortunate enough to meet Ayuba Sanunu, a young tourism student and local and I highly recommended him as a guide. This highly intelligent 27-year-old man is in the process of building his own tour company and, in addition to excellent local knowledge and best contacts with the village communities, has a keen sense of the interests of his clients, which he miraculously fulfills. I have with him the mosque Visited in Larabanga, made a canoe tour, visited an eco-village and farmers during the corn harvest. He showed me huge ancient baobab trees (and other great trees) as well as giant termite mounds. With his unobtrusive, very competent manner, he also creates a pleasant atmosphere for all involved in visits to the villages. To summarize, in the north, after the hustle and bustle of Accra and Kumasi, you can relax and experience the original Ghana, almost completely untouched by tourism.
