Mercedes-Benz Museum

The Museum celebrates the automobile invented by Carl Benz in 1886: it relates its history and tells its stories, bringing both alive by placing them in the context of technology, day-to-day life, social history and popular culture. More than 160 vehicles of all types are the main protagonists. They range from some of the oldest automobiles ever built to legendary racing cars and futuristic research vehicles. Together with other exhibits, they form the centrepiece of the permanent exhibition covering a total of 16,500 square metres in twelve rooms. This unparalleled world can be discovered on two tours that follow a 'Legend' and 'Collection' narrative.

A mazing museum of automotive history, brilliantly laid out in a logical fashion with very good information relating to world history as you start from the top at the beginning and work your way down to the present at the bottom. Lots to see and some great photo opportunities. Take plenty of time. 2hours at least. The shop at the end of museum is good but a bit pricey. And we were lucky, in front of museum was a classic car meeting that day. Many american muscle cars to see.

We stayed for 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, there's lots of little details to see in the scenes and the airport with planes taking off and landing is impressive. The venue gets quieter later, it was a bit too full when we arrived at 2:30pm, and there are reduced price tickets near closing time. There's a cloakroom (50 cents) before the entrance, or lockers with returnable 1€ in the café. They ask you not to take rucksacks into the exhibition.

Beyond the cars and vehicular history, the park and landscaping is beautiful and during Christmas time there were lots of activities. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We came here as part of a group. We did the english tour where as our relatives did the german tour. I did notice that at the beginning whre the your starts the german tour included lowering the items which hang from the ceiling but on or english tour this was not demonstrated to us. Our tour started where the model of the pump was. The children were well incuded in the tour and one of our grandchildren who is scared of the dark was offered a torch. The interesting part of the tour was the end part where we climbed the many many stairs up a ladder to get back to surface. We did not spend much time in the land museums afterwards.

I spent a few days in Hamburg and wanted to visit somewhere else. My host recommended Lubeck and off I went! It was stunning, I absolutely love it, compare to Hamburg. It is full of culture, little alley ways to walk around and visit the small city. Took about an hour from Hamburg with train. I would highly recommend this place for a day visit!

Very neat museum! It has something for everyone from your classic car enthusiast to your aviation buffs. You can explore a fire engine collection to walk through a Boeing 747 which is on stilts in the sky. There is an extensive collection on the space program. There is even a Russian rocket. It’s a must visit.

Why do people moan about visiting a museum when they aren’t interested in the history, beats me. So to all those people who moan about being ripped off or the staff not speaking English (which they do by the way) etc, go on the web site and everything you need to know is written in black and white, ‘O’ and in English. The cost to get in is €3 which includes the Audio guide, free for school kids, Military and Emergency Services etc, so what’s to moan about..... This is the 3rd time I’ve been here, the Bunker System was great, the new museum being built, due to be open in 2 years will be brilliant. So at the moment it is a bit cramped but that’ll all be rectified come 2021 ‘ish’...... Ps if you want to moan about what’s exhibited and written then write to these people instead of moaning at the staff..... (A permanent exhibition on the history of Obersalzberg and the Nazi dictatorship by the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History)......
