The Catholic Monarchs King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel were very important in the history of Fuengirola. On the 7th of August 1485, they conquered the Sohail Castle which was under the rule of Moors. In the middle of the Plaza de Los Reyes Catolicos is a 3-meter tall bronze statue made in honor for them.
