Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire

The home of Auguste Escoffier is a now a museum with several exhibits on this famous French cook, considered by many the father of modern culinary art. The Museum is closed until 21 December 2018 inclusive. We will welcome you from 22 December 2018 : from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, every day.

Reviewed By Jeanbart16 - Bordeaux, France

This is a definite must place to visit for gourmets! The well-designed and well-run museum in the house where Escoffier was born is now run by the city. The 6 euros entry fee even included a Peach Melba dessert and coffee on our visit! The precious collection of menus and the well preserved period cooking utensils are enlightening: one comes away with a better understanding of how French cuisine was born and its historical influence on the New York dining scene.

Monastere de Cimiez

Reviewed By lev3107 - Omsk Oblast, Russia

" A picture is worth a thousand words" Monastery de Cimiez is the best example. The place which is Impossible to descibe in words..Awsome! Cimez is now a quarter of Nice, an upper class neighborhood. Besides Cimez Monastry, the area contains Henri Matisse Museum and the Roman Ruins, consisting of arena, amphitheatre, thermal baths, and paleochristian basilica. On the ground of Roman Ruins Jazz festival of Nice takes place every year in July. The Monastère de Cimiez (Cimiez Monastery) and church that have been used by the Franciscan monks since the 16th century can be found here. The church owns "La piéta", "La Cruxifiction" and the "Déposition", three of the most important works from the medieval artist Louis Bréa. On display are more than 300 documents and works of art from the 15th to 18th centuries. Among these are a large gilded wood Baroque alter piece with a fallen Jesus on it, and a Seraphic Cross from 1477. In the monastery's cemetery there are buried some famous people like the painters Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy, or the winner of the 1937 Nobel Prize for Literature, Roger Martin du Gard. The monastery was built by the Franciscans in the early 16th century. In the 17th century it was still a convent, an active monastery. Its small museum showcases the Franciscan way of life from the 18th century to modern day. The monastery grounds contain a magnificent rose garden and breathtaking views across Nice toward the sea. It is opened from 10 am to 12 am and from 3 pm to 6 pm every day except Sunday and some holidays. There is no entrance fee, which of course is a plus for all the travellers))

Chateau de la Napoule / Musee Henry-Clews

Reviewed By Vierdank - Stockholm, Sweden

If you are around La Napoule/Mandelieu/Théoule (all quite near Cannes), you must visit this very special chateau. A lifetime achievment by the excentric - and rich - artist Henry Clews in the beginning of last century. Built on old parts of a medieval castle, he and his wife took upon them to transform their dream to reality. Henry Clews wife continued the work after his death and managed to save the castle from both depression and Nazis. Henry Clews was unfortunate to live around the same time as Picasso, Miró and Dali and thus disappeared as an artist in comparison with those giants. The castle's gardens are lovely to walk around and there is a wonderful little café terrace on the sea side of the main building, with great views over the Cannes bay and nearby villages. The castle itself is showed at guided tours - during summer with frequent intervals. On the tour you get to see the entrance part and the large rooms facing the sea as well as Clews's studio. The whole place is adorned with sculptures and design elements of Henry Clews, who indeed was a most interesting and idiosyncratic artist. Well worth a visit!

Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild

It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

A must stop for anyone visiting Me ton, especially if you enjoy visiting churches. I stopped in to St. Michel Basilica as I was passing by on a self guided walking tour. The resin anting church bells beckoned me, so I went in. It was a Sunday morning and although I could not understand very well, the language of the service the opening hymn was a familiar tune. It was a blessing to visit; such a beautiful church!
