The city of Freiburg im Breisgau sits austerely on the edge of the Black Forest. Home to one of Germany’s oldest universities and a Gothic sandstone cathedral, it’s a hub for academics and medieval history buffs. Chug German suds at a local brewery, then hop a cable car up Schauinsland mountain, where astounding views and a solar observatory await.

The market surrounds the the cathedral in the center of the old section of town. The market gives the square a vitality with vendors selling local, seasonal produce, flowers, food, and other products. Concerts on the cathedral's organ occur every Saturday morning and feature both traditional and contemporary works. You can take tours of the cathedral by the docents and even visit the workshop where new stonework is carved using traditional tools.

Very nice town to walk and see the sights. Canals running through the city are nice. Great shopping and restaurants.

My Wife and I decided to visit this new memorial to the victims of The Shoah (Holocaust) that devastated the lives of so many. We found it to be a very moving place, a sheltered piece of thought provoking memorial architecture/sculpture amidst the bustle of everyday life. A poignant reminder of just how easily taken for granted liberties can be snatched away. As we placed our hands in the tranquil waters we both said a prayer for all those Jewish Lives so cruelly taken and devastated. Sorry can never be enough, but what we can do is to send you our Love, ensure that you will never be forgotten, and it never happens again. As Christians we need to shout out loud "NEVER IN OUR NAME!" We have so much in common, We are both of The Abrahamic tradition.
