Fraser island is great, a must see for sure. We rented a 4WD with Dingoes for 3days and 2 nights. The 1st and last day were great! Our experience was mostly good except for the 2nd day where we basically didn't do anything. First of all we rented a 4wd and were told to stay on the main tracks on the island and to avoid all the others because they are "too hard to drive onto". No recovery gear is given at all in the 4wd except for a 200mm long shovel. The 2nd day we were supposed to drive up to Indian Head lookout, then walk "about 20minutes" to champagne pools. So we drive up to Indiand head, park the car at the bottom on the eastern beach side because the bypass was forbidden. We get to the bottom of the hill to find out the walking trails are closed and they have been closed for more than a month already.( When we told them about it when we came back they said "you should have just gone around the fences" which were put up by the government saying do not trespass.) I imagine if something had happened to us they would of course have said otherwise. Anyways, we then have a look across the beach to start walking to champagne pools, where we were supposed to have lunch, but it is way more than "about 20min walk" more like 40-60mins (one way). We then drove back down the beach and had to wait for the tides to go down to cross Eli creek, so basically lost a whole day on the island, wasted fuel and time to se nothing. We sent them an email and had a very unpleasant response from the manager. No experience at all concerning customer relations. Car was okay but as I said that's all you get, no recovery gear if any problems, no first aid kit and no audio/radio. Will use someone else next time.
