This convention center hosts the annual Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show.
We very badly wanted to see the last edition of the Stock Show Rodeo and did make it! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the Grand Entry and it was great to various rodeo events, enabling us to see a great variety of events. And here we are close to action. So glad this will not be torn down as the Dickies Arena comes on line in the fall of this year. We understand it will remain a focal point for equestrian events.

My dad has always had the soul of a cowboy and I wanted for their 48th anniversary this year to take some time away to spend with them doing things neither of us ever make the time for. So we took a train from Oklahoma to Ft. Worth just to spend the weekend in the stockyard area. This trip was soooo hot this must have been the hottest weekend of the summer July 20-22 but it was by far the best weekend we have had in forever. We walked around the area of the stockyards and did some shopping, mostly in the candy store (mind you dad is 69, mom is 64 I am 44 and my husband is 50) but we do have a sweet tooth, we did actually increase my mothers wardrobe and all three of them ended up with new cowboy hats. We watched the cattle drive Saturday morning and went to a midday show in the arena and then to the rodeo Saturday night, and followed it up by a church service in the shopping area Sunday and the BBQ buffet behind the arena for meal. This is a pretty cool little slice of cowboy heaven and a trip we will never forget.
