Things to do in Florence, Tuscany: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

September 2, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

Florence is an art historian’s dream. The Galleria dell'Accademia bursts with works by Michelangelo, who is entombed within the frescoed walls of the Basilica di Santa Croce. Budding photographers can snap pics of the Ponte Vecchio bridge, and serious shoppers can spend a blissful afternoon wandering the shops of Piazza Santo Spirito. Tuscan cuisine pays homage to the region’s bounty. Swipe a hunk of crusty bread across a pool of local olive oil and you’ll be instantly transported to your happiest place.

They had so much more in-store than on their website, I was a little taken aback when I first walked in. The prices were very reasonable (I went to a similar shop in Rome, and the prices were outrageous, even for Rome). The shopkeeper was friendly and made good conversation, and spoke very good English (thank goodness). I wish I had more money to spend, I couldn't have spent hours in that shop. If I ever get the opportunity to go back to Italy, this shop will be my first stop!

Looked around Florence for Italian gold jewelry and I found the prices and quality was varied. I decided to checked trip advisor and The Gold Market was rated number 1 so I stopped in and found out why. The selection of items was extensive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The general manager Maria Pappas even came over to say hello and to bring us some water. I purchased a beautiful chain and gold bracelet. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Florence and would like to purchase authentic 18kt Italian gold!

My husband and I went on a small group tour of Florence’s hidden gems. Among some of the amazing little gems we had the privilege of visiting was the fabulous Aqua Flore. Everything about this perfumery is amazing. Each room was an experience of luxury and delicious aromas. We went into the secret caves which opened out into gorgeous perfume rooms and went further down to see how the perfumes are made. I loved seeing all the glass test tubes lining the walls. I could have stayed all day as it was a magical experience.

Weaving is a real art . It’s the art making fabric interlacing threads , one of which , the warp, is always open to welcome the plot. The plot travels back and forth through the warp allowing the artist to interlace the fibers and create her design. Working on the loom becomes for me a tribute to the ancient female arts of weaving, spinning and sewing which evoke the inner creativity of women.
