Things to do in Florence, Tuscany: The Best Food & Drink

November 13, 2021 Emerita Lamoureux

Florence is an art historian’s dream. The Galleria dell'Accademia bursts with works by Michelangelo, who is entombed within the frescoed walls of the Basilica di Santa Croce. Budding photographers can snap pics of the Ponte Vecchio bridge, and serious shoppers can spend a blissful afternoon wandering the shops of Piazza Santo Spirito. Tuscan cuisine pays homage to the region’s bounty. Swipe a hunk of crusty bread across a pool of local olive oil and you’ll be instantly transported to your happiest place.

Me and my girlfriend spent two nights in Firenze and were looking for places close to our hotel to get some good beer. Archea Brewery was just a five-minute walk away and we went there after dinner. Judging it from the outside, we thought it looked a bit "shady" but it luckily it didn't scare us. The place was just fantastic. Behind the counter was a enthusiastic bartender who really enjoyed his job and had great knowledge of all the beer. We tested a selection of their own craft beer and it was really, really good. And they just cost 5 euro, which I thought was a steal for that kind of quality. Overall, the place was really cosy and you instantly felt at home. If you love beer and going outside the beaten path, this is the place to go in Firenze.

Loggia Roof Bar

Overlooking Santo Spirito square, this spendid terrace offers an idyllic panorama of the city and the surrounding hills. The magnificent Loggia, the first one of its kind in Florence, is still one of the most picturesque and iconic landmark of the Oltrarno. The Loggia Roof Bar, with its romantic atmosphere, is ideal for an aperitivo admiring the sunset over the red roofs of Florence.
