Bosque Bello Cemetery

This was a wonderful and sentimental trip through the history of overlooked lives of ordinary people who came before us. Lots of very old graves. I saw one dating back to the Revolutionary War. So many from the 1800's. Veterans, wives and, sadly, very young children. You can walk through the moss covered walkways and just marvel at all the history that is surrounding you. Haunting and yet beautiful. Just remember, you don't have to get out of your car, but if you do, bring the bug repellent. You will be swarmed by every flying bug known the mankind.

We visitors the Maritime Museum which was filled with artifacts from different shipwrecks found off Amelia Island. The tour started off with a video overview of some of the historical information and how Amelia Island became a hub for Pirates. The video was well put together and fascinating. After the video ended we met with a talented volunteer at the Museum who built 3 of the 4 model (but functional) ships at the front of the Museum. The amount of talent/time that went into those model boats is incredible. We then began the tour with Doug who is one of the treasure hunters who built his own excavation boat to find the treasures you’ll see in the Museum. Doug was a great storyteller and was very knowledgeable about all of the artifacts. We really enjoyed the tour, and it made us want to go out and find treasures ourselves! We highly recommend going by and visiting the museum while you’re on Amelia Island, it was completely worth the nominal $5 entry!

George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park

My husband and I rode bike to the bridge from the Ritz along the well paved and beautiful bike path--in the pouring rain! So worth the trip. The closed bridge is located parallel to the current highway and offers some of the best views on the island. There is an easy turn off from the bike path and a bait shop/store with restrooms-- I think. Many fisherman on the bridge said they were having good luck. We walked our bikes across for photos and to give our tired legs a rest before peddling back. Would love to go again on a sunny day. Worth the stop.

Amelia Island Lighthouse

Took a guided tour of the lighthouse. A bus took the guest from the Amelia Island Recreation Center to the lighthouse. The guide gave a short talk about lighthouses and then all toured the grounds. You cannot climb the lighthouse, the tours are not daily, and you need a reservation. Worth going, though.
