A great outdoor choice with opportunities for beach walking, wildlife viewing and great scenery. The overlook where the Mad River empties into the Bay is wonderful

Small zoo with very nice facilities, super clean and a fun variety of animals. Highlights; red panda, gibbon, river otters (adorable), red ibis, bald eagles and the most pristine captive flamingos I’ve ever seen. For $10 well worth stopping by for an hour or so.

The drive certainly is difficult and long, the hiking arduous and not for the faint of heart. The scenery, the wildlife, the surf, the creeks, the camping, the night sky, the company, the whole experience, is one I will look back on as one of the best in my life. Give yourself time to enjoy the experience, an extra day, if you can. Talk with or reference someone who has done the trip previously and use their suggestions for a wonderful journey into Northern California’s truly wild Lost Coast. The questions below don’t really apply...give yourself 4 or 5 days.

Easily accessible to walk, hike, drive, or picnic. Just a few hundred feet into Sequoia Park, you'll feel like you're deep within a spectacular primeval forest. Close nearby is a park, zoo, and other attractions.

Beautiful and well maintained garden on the campus of College of the Redwoods. Reasonable admission fee. Plants available for sale in the greenhouse.

There’s a two mile round trip paved trail. There are other trails through the woods too. There was an old logging camp there around 1900 that left and over time the forest took over and there are only a couple things remaining from the camp; foundation of a house and a large barn.

An amazing city park free to the public. You don't have to travel to the backwoods of Humboldt County to experience giant redwoods. Easy walking paths for all levels and ages.

Interesting place - local suggested it as a 15 min stop - stayed an hour and a half. Not many buildings, but well displayed - ranger is available for tours and did an EXCELLENT job. Fort was established to quell fighting between Native Indian Tribes and Settlers. Offered an unbiased discription of the "troubles" without being political or PC. Presented both sides. Spend the time to look at displays and you will find this to be a great little spot.
