Beautiful and peaceful Orthodox Monastery in the Essex countryside. The Priests and Nuns are very welcoming and along with other visitors we were invited to lunch with them. Plenty to explore in and around the gardens, the crypt and the small church. Very humbling.

St Paul's was conceived as part of the original Master Plan for Harlow new town. Designed by Derrick Humphrys, it was consecrated in April 1959. Its copper covered spire surmounted by a golden cross rises 95 feet. Internal features include the original brightly coloured furnishings designed by R.W. Hurst, the decorative colour scheme and the imposing John Piper mosaic of the Risen Christ at Emmaus

A Cathedral in the heart of the city centre. Open daily for worship, prayer or simply to look round. There are many free concerts and exhibitions running throughout the year. See the Cathedral website for details; chelmsfordcathedral.org.uk There is no entry charge and we are situated just five minutes from the bus and railway stations.
Attended a further lunchtime concert, They occur on most Fridays from 12.30. Although it would be worth checking just in case there would be a need to change the schedule. Teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes are sold from 12 noon by the most charming volunteers. This time it was the Brentwood School Big Band plus Choir. We have attended these lunchtime concerts many times over the years and would consider this Band to be the best event on their annual schedules.

Remarkable old timbers make this church very special. Although changed over the centuries part is probably the oldest wooden church in the world and a few years back it appeared on the British postage stamps. The location is peaceful and rural. Rather appropriately it also has some beautiful modern wood work in the form of the font designed by Sir Hugh Casson. There is lots of interesting history associated with the building.
