The oldest pub in Manningtree is still a traditional pub with a great selection of real local ales, an open fire, comfy chesterfield sofas, homely surroundings, friendly locals and staff. A unique take on food with customers bringing their own with plates and cutlery being supplied free of charge.
And the pub was busy - as usual. No surprise as it’s friendly, comfortable, with good beer. But too cold to sit outside this visit!

Asylum is a home for the musically insane. The owners play in a punk band, staff all involved in music in one form or another. All genres catered for with live bands playing anything from punk, rock, metal and alternative to dance, electro, acoustic and more. Intimate in size, 2 stages and 2 bars on two floors, but great in atmosphere (so we're told by all our in-mates)!Over 18 s and mostly free entry. Bars open until 02.30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 12.00 a.m. week-days. Casual dress.

The Cocktail experts have finally landed in Chelmsford! Pop in & try one of our many cocktails (over 150!) made by our magnificently skilled mixologists!
THE place to be for a girls night. Visited with a friend for a few cocktails, and was welcomed straight away by Megan and Mike. After some cocktail assistance and deliberation, we went for a Swedish Spring Punch and Paradise Punch as it was 2-4-1 hour. Will definitely recommend and be visiting again soon! Thanks guys!!

Last night we had a pizza and beer delivery. Piping hot delicious garlic mushroom pizzas with a side of coleslaw and a couple of pints of Big Wave. It was truly delicious - best pizza I’ve had in a very long time! The sweets were a lovely added bonus with the delivery! Excellent value - wish we could order one every day!! Thanks for making us so happy (and well fed!) in what is a very strange and difficult time. You are certainly making the best out of a bad situation Thanks again - can’t recommend highly enough

We are conveniently located in central Chelmsford, a stones throw from the bus and train stations. We’re also just 10 minutes walk to Essex County Cricket ground and a 5 minute walk to the High Street. The Ale House really is a great place for the discerning drinker. Everyday there is a selection of 12 Cask Ales, 8 Keg Beers, 5 German Beers on tap, 12 Traditional Ciders, 1 Guest Keg Cider, Over 100+ Bottles and Cans and so much more. The Ale House has a distinctive look too, housed in two of the railway arches by the train station, it's panelled walls, wooden tables and long bar make it feel different to anywhere else in Chelmsford. Perfect for meeting up before the cricket, football and beer festivals. Don't be surprised if you decide to you hang around for 'just one more'.
I popped in here for a pint before a trip to the Gurkha Restaurant up the road. What a fantastic find. I love a nice pint of real ale and this was right up my street. I was a bit lost for choice on the ale front but was offered a small sample of the Tropical blonde beer before choosing a pint of it. There is a really varied choice and while I can recommend the Tropical one it became a bit too fruity half a pint in. So much to choose from tho so something for everyone. Loads of seating and a really nice place to enjoy a beer and put the world to rights.

Welcome to your new-look Curlew. We've been fully redesigned and refurbished. The interior is spacious and beautiful. Looking more like a traditional pub, we have captured the heritage and charm of a traditional pub but with a modern colour scheme and heritage lighting. We now offer more seating, a multi use restaurant, a wider range of drinks and pool table. We are now a family run, family friendly, community pub. Positioned in the centre of a community, we aim to be the beating heart. We welcome everyone. Alongside our famous Shepherd Neame beers, we have international lagers, traditional cider, a wide selection of wines and spirits. New to The Curlew is our range of coffees and teas. These are served all day with a choice of tempting biscuits, cakes and muffins. Our coffee is Rainforest Alliance certified and roasted in East Anglia. It tastes great and travels a short distance so you can enjoy it knowing that it's fresh and rewarding for everyone in the production cycle. We will be providing food very soon, so like us and you will be the first to know when our menu is released. As we have been redesigned, we welcome the addition of a function suite. This can be hired free (T's & C's apply) for any event. Full details available upon request 01245 690470.
I recently came here for Sunday lunch and had a great roast. Just the right amount of food and a great cider on the side. This lovely meal resulted in a return visit for dinner the other night. I look forward to my next visit!
