Portuguese, French and Berber architecture frame the maze-like streets of Essaouira, a charming and vibrant port and resort town on the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby, couples and families stroll the beaches of Cape Sim and Sidi Kaouki, which also attract surfers of all types. Relaxation is easy to find here, as is a bus to Marrakech, for those looking for a daytrip.

Essaouira ex Mogador is an old town located at the edge of Atlantic Ocean founded by Sultan Mohamed ben abdellah 1760 located 170 km from Marrakech about 02h30 drive. Essaouira remains one of the best destinations from Marrakech. Essaouira has a fishing port where fishing is mainly sardines. Just like Marrakech it is an important tourist attraction. A small visit of the souks is essential with the splendid sight of the ocean since the ramparts and mainly since the Sakala. On the road to Essaouira, you will find many argan trees. These trees grow only in the south-west of Morocco. Trees at the age of forty produce fruit containing hard cores containing again seeds from which argan oil is obtained. This oil is used for cosmetic or culinary purposes.

At 8 : 00 am your guide will pick you up from your accommodation and drive towards the west. On the way, you stop to see the holy trees of argan. It is a special tree adapted to semi-desertic areas and valued for its medicinal properties. Goats climb these trees for grazing and to learn more about argan production you can visit one of the women cooperatives in the area working on the extraction of both nutritive and cosmetic oil. Our destination is the historic city of Essaouira, a small seaside town with an old fortified fishing port. Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese who occupied it till the mid of the 18th century. the impressive town fortification consists of an amazing mixture of the Portuguese, Berber and French architecture. You will have enough time to explore the small city at your leisure such as the souks and carpentry workshops devoted to Thuya wood carving. See numerous art galleries in the medina and visit the fortified harbor with its stalls of fresh fish.

We didn't book through Green Palm Transport, but they provided transport for our 3 day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga and back. We were in the second of two vehicles in our 'convoy' - fortunately ours was the smaller of the two with only the 3 of us and another passenger on board. Cannot credit Jamal enough for his driving abilities, particularly navigating across the Atlas mountains. Sure enough, it's a long journey with plenty of stops en route (Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, Dades, etc). More credit due given that the passenger in the passenger seat clearly wasn't familiar with the 'assertive' driving in Morocco and kept critiquing Jamal's driving abilities. Anyone who can tolerate a back seat driver for 3 days deserves a medal. Thanks to Jamal for being personable, providing lots of snippets of information and his consideration for his passengers on this long route.

Rural markets usually take place once a week. On Wednesdays in the village of Ida Ogourd locals do their weekly shopping and meet ‘n’ greet friends. This market is a friendly, family affair which takes place on a small hill in a fertile area only 20km southeast of Essaouira. Market-goers traditionally travel by donkey to get the goods they need for the forthcoming week: the “Donkey Parking Lot” surrounding the market is a sight to behold! At the market you find vegetables, fruits, spices, housewares, tools, and construction materials as well as various services that are offered: a blacksmith putting new horseshoes onto donkeys’ hooves; a welder repairing pans, kettles, and teapots; a cobbler resoling shoes. Of special note are barbers under tents - amusing barber shops, indeed! As we stroll through the market we pick up interesting details about farmers’ lives in this region accompanied by background information on Berber culture in the Haha province. We finish our tour of the market with tea as we observe the busy scenery. Afterwards we visit an Argan cooperative to learn about the production of precious Argan Oil - in all of the world this is a product unique to this area. We watch the Berber women at every step in extracting oil from the kernels of the Argan fruits using a delicate, traditional process done by hand. Of course, we taste this delicious oil that bears the name “Morocco’s Gold”.

We took a walking tour through the countryside, along the coast with two young children (2 and 6ys).They both rode a for much of day. Our guide, Claudia is great, very friendly and knowledgable. We enjoyed some incredible scenery, had fun running/sliding down dunes, looked around historic places and finished our day with a delicious lunch in the home of a local Berber family who were very welcoming to us. It was a great experience to share with our kids. We would definitely recommend Claudia and Berberlands and hope to do and tour in the future when we return to Essaouira.

you will start traveling to the coastal city of Essaouira. Getting there after about a 2 and a half-hour drive to start exploring the city. You’ll visit the Skala Fortress; see Thuya wood carved by artisans; walk through the alleys of the medina and view hundreds of handicrafts. This "City of the Wind" attracts surfers from all over the world. Essaouira knew many civilizations - including the Portuguese occupation, which affects much of its architecture - however, it remains a small village with much history. Because of its size and its characteristic blue doors and washed walls, it is also regarded as Morocco’s "Jewel of the Atlantic”. You will also visit the women's co-operative of Argan oil. Here they extract the oil that is famous for its culinary, cosmetic and medicinal properties. Lunch will be done the Moroccan way – fresh fish “cooked in order” at the fish market. In the afternoon you will travel back to Marrakech
Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Pick up and drop off to and from meeting point, Professional driver
Exclusions: Lunche and drinks, Entrance fees (optional), Local guide fees (optional)
I booked a four days trip with another agency but Red city tour were in charge of the transport for us. I wanted to spend one night in Zagora Sand Dunes and then one night in the Sahara desert. The remaining night was spent in the lovely B&B. Nordine, the driver is fantastic. A skillful, friendly and a helpful driver. We had numerous stops to refresh and stretch our legs. The whole trip was fun and mind blowing landscapes. It would take me hours if I had to recount all the amazing places we visited along the way. Thank you Nordine for making the trip fun and for keeping us safe. Hope to make this trip again as a family in the future inchallah. Hafida

We highly recommend this one day trip from Marrakech to Ouzoud Falls with Omar. This was such a beautiful day, we enjoyed the sightseeing, the landscapes with remarkable explanations from Omar! During this trip, Omar invited us to take the tea in a traditional morrocan family living up the Ouzoud hills...unforgettable moment! Ouzoud falls are one of the most interesting place to visit in Marrakesh. We are very grateful and recognizing to our Driver and Marrakech accompanyist OMAR! Thank you!
Departure for Essaouira, the former Portuguese Mogador, the white and blue city "well designed" for Sultan Ben Abdallah by a French architect, in the 18C. You will admire the Navy Gate and the Skala with its alignment of bronze cannons. You will appreciate its nonchalant charm, its whitewashed houses, its tranquil squares, its welcoming café-terraces, its old fishing port, its quality craftsmanship (tuya wood marquetry) and its delicious fish. And the unique, cordial atmosphere that reigns in its alleys where locals mingle with tourists and artists from all over the world. After lunch, take the road back to Marrakech around 4 or 5 PM
