In the Rademacher Forges, the 17th Century comes to Life! Rademachersmedjorna (The Rademacher Forges) is an open-air museum in the middle of Eskilstuna with a number of well-preserved houses from Reinhold Rademachers smith manufacture from the 17th century. Here you will find active craftsmen, a museum smithy, a café and a restaurant. Outdoors in the area there are several exhibitions, open around the clock, year round. The area is free to enter, all year around. The history of Rademachersmedjorna The first forges were completed in 1659 and formed part of Carl Gustaf's City Ironmanufactury, landscaped and named after King Karl X Gustav. The manufacture was led by Reinhold Rademacher, whom the king invited from Livland in his quest to develop the Swedish smithing. In each smith household there were, besides the master and his family, spouses and apprentices. This meant that it could get quite crowded at home. Working in the smithy was dirty and sometimes hot, sometimes very cold.
