Things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland: The Best Spas & Wellness

October 11, 2021 Esmeralda Fenner

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city, renowned for its heritage, culture and festivals. Take a long walk around the centre to explore the World Heritage Sites of the Old Town and New Town, as well as all the area’s museums and galleries. Then stop for a delicious meal made from fresh Scottish produce before heading out to take in one of Edinburgh’s many events — including the famous summer festivals of culture, or the Winter Festivals of music, light and ceilidhs.

My "aches & pains" treatment went far above and beyond a mere massage. After asking me about my pains and physical history, a treatment was customised to my needs and problems. From deep tissue massage to herbal compresses and even scraping, this was a deeply personal treatment that focused on my severe shoulder pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm not "all better" - but I have more range of motion than I've had in months and can already feel my muscles loosening. You're given instructions for how to make lifestyle changes to prevent issues from recurring, plus given "after care" instructions about how to maximise your healing benefits from the treatment. I'll be going back for regular treatments in an effort to get my shoulders and knee in proper working order! Quiet, restful environment in a convenient location, wonderful owners and therapists, and just an absolutely ideal experience for someone who's not interested in a spa-type beauty treatment but truly wants help addressing deep-seated physical issues or pain. The owners and therapists are caring, considerate people who take the time to talk to you and get to know you and your issues - and your interests and life! Best of all, you get to experience a calming, delightful Chinese tea ceremony at the end of your treatment - and if you are a tea aficionado, you'll be treated to fabulous conversation and perhaps a rare pu-ehr or two! Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Just returned from a stay at this lovely hotel. Warm welcome upon arrival from friendly and attentive staff. Room was very large and beautifully furnished. Very cosy and comfortable. Top end toiletries in bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. Location was excellent. Just a short stroll from Waverley Station and right next to Scottish Parliament, holyrood House and Our Dynamic Earth. Special mention to Dougie the concierge who went out if his way for us.
