The objective is to stimulate interest in maritime history, science and technology through interactive communication methods - especially for children and young people. Consequently, learning through playing and experimenting is essential when visiting DuVerden. The centre has its own amphitheatre, which seats fifty people, and is used for 3D films. The weather turntable illustrates weather in a new way. Spin it as hard as you can, and a fan will produce a storm strength wind. We also have a big toy for the big boys: Our ship bridge simulator lets you control a ship and you can navigate up the river to Skien or out on to the fiord. Welcome to a great experience!

Slemmestad Geology Centre was built up with assistance from the Palaeontological Museum and opened in 1994. Fossils, species of rock and minerals from the surrounding area are arranged in display cases. A model illustrates the bedrock in Slemmestad and the neighbourhood. The timescales and terms that are used in geology are described on wallcharts. In addition, the Centre has a considerable collection of books and maps. The Geology Centre is intended to provide information to everyone who is interested in geology - school classes, the local population, tourists and the many amateur and professional geologists that visit Royken each year. The former Sack Factory in Slemmestad houses the Geology Centre, the Cement Museum and the Public Library. Brochures that give more information about the many interesting geological walks in the area may be purchased in the library.
