When visiting Ephraim, be sure to take the Ephriam Historical Foundation's tram tour of the 5 museums. John led an interesting, educating, and enlightening tour, explaining all about the first residents of the area and how the town grew. Worth every penny at $5.00 a person. Great way to see Ephraim.

Door County Maritime Museum

Where Great Lakes maritime history comes alive! Located along Sturgeon Bay’s working waterfront, the Door County Maritime Museum showcases the area’s rich maritime roots. The museum features several interactive exhibits, as well as tours of the immaculately restored seagoing tugboat John Purves. Hard-working fishermen, brave ship captains, skilled craftsmen, bold inventors and lonely lighthouse keepers are just some of the personalities you’ll discover in the galleries of the museum.

This is a wonderful museum with some history of the town's contributions to the ship building industry and contributions to the war effort WWII. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours to take it all in. If you are lucky enough to be able to take a tour of the tug John Purvess, I would jump on it. Special thanks to Executive Director Osgood for taking time to conduct a non-scheduled tour of the tug John Purvess!!!! The museum is in safe hands with him.

Interesting if you have an interactive interest in nature & the Great Lakes. We come to the island for summer salmon fishing so always have some down time. Loved the monarch caterpillar garden out front, was able to hold a snake they had out for display, & they had lots of displays about the local landscape. Also had some local artists works. NOTE: we were here Aug of 2019 but that was not available to choose from the dropdown so noted as Aug 2020

Washington Island Farm Museum

Reviewed By WImom - Fond du Lac, United States

Free self-guided tour with brochure and donation box. All buildings were open including the log house but didn't see any personal. It showcases buildings from various island locations that were moved and reassembled here along with the hand tools and agricultural machinery used in early farm life between 1870 and 1940. Buildings include a log cabin, barn, forge, sawmill, corn crib, outhouse, Gallery barn, farm animal pen, weaving shed, machine shed, blacksmith shop, and log shed. Of interest, inside the gallery barn, on the second floor, was a copper still, used on the island during prohibition. Went here on September 23.
