A large island, approximately 20 by 20 kilometers, Djerba lies just off the northeastern coast of Africa, in southeastern Tunisia, near the Libyan border. Set on the Gulf of Gabes, the island is known for an eclectic population of residents and tourists, splendid beaches and picturesque villages that feature distinctive, square, whitewashed houses. Houmt Souq is the one large town, with bustling markets and lively outdoor cafes. Djerba, which offers a pirate's castle and fortress-like mosques, is believed to have been the inspiration for Homer's Odyssey. Accessible from the south of Tunisia, a road originally built by the Romans connects the island to the mainland.

Two top museums - the Islamic art one and the heritage one, a nice space and outdoors, and, for fans, the crocodile and turtle farm. Only damper. The cafeteria is extremely expensive so avoid eating or drinking there. Bravo to the designers and this who are keeping this space well maintained.

This is easy to find. Easy disabled access. Plenty of picnic space or little cafes etc. Nice souvenir shops. It’s a combined ticket with museums to see. Good for all ages. I think the best attraction in Djerba and great value. Best to go about 1 or 2 and enjoy the museums then get ready to see the crocodile feed at about4 or 5. We easily spend over 4 hours there. The crocodiles are amazing and so well looked after.
