This high-altitude scenic drive climbs more than 7,000 feet in just 28 miles, reaching an altitude of 14,264 feet.
The climb up was exceptional. Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, wildflowers everywhere, and a great stop at the historic Echo Lake Lodge all made for a wonderful experience.

The Church of the Holy Ghost was our pick for our Christmas Mass. It was a short and delightful walk from our stay at the Quincy on Curtis St. The church is a 1940's style ornate church with beautiful wood and marble. The acoustics was very nice and choir was so wonderful for the Christmas songs. All decked out in Christmas greens and poinsettias reds with festive lights and the Nativity made for a beautiful Christmas Mass. It was a terrific church to celebrate Christmas Mass....

Surprisingly, I discovered that Fairmount Cemetery is the burial site of Colorado's most notorious mass murderer, Colonel John Chivington. He was the architect of the Sand Creek Massacre where on November 29, 1864, a camp of peaceful Southern Cheyenne and Arapahoe Native Americans were massacred under his command of 675 soldiers of the US Army 1st Cavalry and Colorado militia volunteers. They slaughtered approximately 400 unarmed Natives where more than two-thirds of the victims were women, children, and tribal elders. Upon their return to Denver, they held a parade proudly displaying the body parts (politely speaking here) of their victims. I am of full European heritage and my Irish ancestors came to homestead near Brighton, Colorado around 1848. Therefore, it would not surprise me to learn that I may have had ancestors who participated in that most shameful atrocity. It seems that for those of us who have deep ancestral roots in Colorado history, that Fairmount Cemetery holds a place in our personal family memoirs.

Colorado Ballet is a non-profit organization celebrating 55 years of presenting world-class classical ballet and contemporary dance in Denver. Colorado Ballet enhances the cultural life of Colorado through performances of the professional company, training at the Academy, and Education & Outreach programs.
I just wanted to thank the dancers and staff of Colorado Ballet for the recent Tour de Force performance. My wife and I have been subscribers for a few years now and love Colorado Ballet. I was especially moved by the recent Tour de Force performance. It was beautiful and magical. The music, choreography and especially the dancers came together to make this one of my most memorable Ballet experiences ever! Christophor Moulton and Chandra Kuykendall partner so very well. Their first dance together literally took my breath away, but that was not the only stand-out dance. The entire performance just kept delivering! I truly wish I could see it again.

We came to a burial here last week and were impressed. The staff were so friendly and courteous, the ceremony was VERY solemn and honorable, and the Cemetery was beautifully kept (not-to-mention the countless geese who definitely added to the atmosphere). Anybody buried there would be proud, as I'm sure families would be.

Short for Lower Downtown, this 29-block section of trendy bars, restaurants and shops also contains preserved buildings from the city's original settlement.
Love the artsy vibe in LoDo. Dairy Block was one of my favorites and is such a fun part of the city to walk around in.

This antique-filled Victorian house was the home of Molly Brown, not only a famous survivor of the Titanic, but so much more. Entry to the Museum has changed in light of COVID-19. In order to protect our guests, volunteers, and staff all guests are now required to purchase tickets online before arriving at the Museum. Guests will be allowed to enter the Museum for a self-guided tour every 20 minutes with no more than 6 people per entry time.
If you are interested in gaining history about one of Denver's most famous citizens, the Molly Brown House Museum should be on your list of sightseeing while in Denver! I had a couple of hours to spare in the middle of the day, while in town for a conference. I was able to walk over to the Molly Brown House Museum from my hotel on 16th Street with ease. Once arriving, the tour guide, Suzette, was amazing. She was so knowledgeable about Margaret "Molly" and JJ Brown, their family, and what brought them to Denver. Additionally, the restoration of the home is absolutely AMAZING! To see how the Browns lived all those years ago, how fascinating. This is definitely a tour to not miss. Make sure you stop by the gift shop for some unique souvenirs including special Harney & Sons tea that is make specifically for the Molly Brown House Museum and a bookmark which is a replica of the impressive stain glass windows that are found inside the house.

A key feature in the Denver skyline because of its gold bell-shaped dome, the Capitol Building, fittingly in the Mile High City, has a point located at exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. Free tours are available for visitors.
A beautiful capital building that has an official marker when you cross the 1 mile mark at 5,280 Feet above sea level. The marking is etched into the 13th step riser of the main stairway. Great view of Denver's Courthouse and the foothills of the Rockies.

The Center for Colorado Women’s History focuses on scholarship, research, lectures, tours and exhibits that expand the understanding and collective memory of the history of women in Colorado. Most importantly, the Center is connecting local stories to the broader stories of women’s history worldwide. The historic house has been the home to inspiring women since 1883. It has been beautifully restored to the era of 1912-1924 and is furnished with the family's original belongings. Guided house tours weave together the stories of the many women, such as Anne Evans, who lived and worked in the home and the impact of the families on early Denver.
I loved the Byers-Evans House tour! Our tour docent, Margaret, did a fabulous job of explaining the history of the Byers/Evans families and how they influenced the development of Denver. I'm a bit of a historic house nerd and have visited many old mansions and am often disappointed by the inability of tour docents to answer my difficult questions. Margaret was a wonderfully knowledgeable guide and could speak with authority about everything we asked! Bravo! Great tour!
