One of two cathedrals in the world that has these statues on the arches, the only one where the statues look up. If you are lucky and they have the roof open in summer, do it. It is truly a sight to behold. The interior is richly decorated and the windows are breathtaking. The entrance from the market has a window that has a panel dedicated to WWII, enter and look back and up. The Maria chapel is still heavily used, with various saints along the walls. Have a look at the wood engravings all along the sides.

Het Bossche Kwartier is a quarter of Den Bosch (or 's-Hertogenbosch as locals also call this city). This quarter of town is the heart of old Den Bosch. In the old streets you can find nice boutiques, authentic shops, food specialized shops and nice pubs & restaurants. In this part you can stroll around and discover.

Snoeperij Tum Tum is a small old candy shop in the city center of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is the oldest candy shop in town. Tum Tum is there for as long as people can remember. Grandparents bring their grandchildren to the candy shop where they used to go as a kid, long time ago. When you visit Tum Tum it is like walking back in time. When you take time to look around, you will see the chocolate molds on the ceiling, the glass candy jars and of course a lot of Old-Dutch candy. All the colors are a feast for the eye. A part of the beauty of this shop lies in all the beautiful stories people bring with them. Old memories of long gone times are told and new memories are made. Everybody has a story with candy and they share them in Tum Tum. You are more then welcome to share your memory with us, or make a new one the next time you visit. Hope to see you soon! The church organised this climb to raise money for repairs. It was a amazing idea. We went up by the stairs and had a wonderful view on the city. We could also admire the art work that is the cathedral. I hope they will organise this again.

The Citadel is a pentagonal entrenchment with bastions, constructed in 1637 in the northern corner of 's-Hertogenbosch. The walls built around the redoubt towered some 38 feet above the water surrounding the Citadel. The entrenchment served not only to defend the city, but also to control the city itself, which after the famous siege of 1629 to a considerable extent had remained pro-Spanish.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this delightful, traditionally Dutch city. Not necessary a household name you’d reel off when listing places in The Netherlands, ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) is full of enchanting side passages, terrific bars and restaurants, tourist attractions and is of course home to the Bossche bol, a chocolate-coated eclair delicacy. We began our tour here at Den Bosch train station, a modern transport hub – not quite on the same level as Arnhem, mind! – and took us past the canals, to Vught Concentration Camp, up Den Bosch’s church spire for sprawling views and all over the rest of the town square. This was a truly great set of three nights, which is more than enough to take it all in (with day trips to Nijmegen, Oss etc.)
