Plaza Mariachi Music City

Plaza Mariachi is a feast for your senses. Couple world class Latin-themed dining, live entertainment ranging from live bands to fire-spinning and aerialists, and retail treasures galore with architecture straight out of an authentic Mexican Pueblo and you will start to comprehend Plaza Mariachi! Come Salsa Dance the night away or let the kids run wild at Tito’s arcade - Plaza is a place with something for the whole family!

Reviewed By WilliamWillieWilson - Nashville, United States

Plaza Mariachi is amazing, with Latin-owned businesses in the heart of one of Nashville’s largest Hispanic communities. You’ll always feel safe and welcomed here. But it’s even better when you have a great supermarket anchoring the shopping center. Let’s just talk about that grocery store known as Mazfresco! If you cook a lot of international cuisine, and you strive for authenticity, it is imperative to find that perfect market with all the specialty ingredients you’ll ever need. I’ve tried quite a few Mexican groceries in Nashville, and there are many (some quite large). But I’ve finally found my go-to supermercado, and it’s Mazfresco! Mention enchiladas to my fellow gringos, and they usually think of some Americanized version of this dish topped with cheddar cheese and red sauce. But those of us who understand and prepare Mexican cuisine also know about Enmoladas, an enchilada dish with a rich, brown mole sauce and queso fresco. Not only does Mazfresco carry a good quality mole sauce, but they also sell the Ibarra chocolate I need to make my own sauce! And of course they have the queso fresco too. I make elote, the most heavenly concoction of corn on the cob grilled with all sorts of toppings. The version sold at Mas Tacos in East Nashville will change your life! When I make it at home, of utmost importance is the finely crumbled cotija cheese coating the exterior of the finished product. If you’re lucky enough to even find this cheese in your local grocery store, it’s always in block form and very tedious to crumble into anything smaller than a pile of cornflakes. Mazfresco is the only place in town I can find not one, but two different brands of finely crumbled cotija. It’s a life saver! To fix an authentic chili con carne, you really need an herb native to Latin America called epazote, rather than the acceptable-but-less-authentic substitute of oregano. And guess what? Mazfresco carries epazote too! Also, the butcher shop is second to none in this town when it comes to meats necessary for Latin American cuisine. And the staff is always so helpful and patient, even when I’m a little less knowledgeable than their typical customer, helping me find ingredients and dispense the advice I need to keep my cooking real. Mazfresco is a small space compared to some, but they surpass all others in selection and quality. Within that modest-sized store is everything you’ll need for cooking the magnificent cuisine south of the border.

Some great wines right here in Tennessee. Did a tasting and walked away with some delicious wines and a growler of the WineTeaZer. If you love sangria make sure to get the People’s Choice Blackberry and the Peach Persuasion. Mix the two together, add fruit, and enjoy as it is delicious! Very friendly staff and good gifts ideas in the store too. Make sure to sample some of the butter spreads, yum!

This small museum is located at the back of a gift shop. Don’t just go to the gift shop but go to this poorly advertised museum in the back. Reasonably priced admission includes detailed guide of items on display. Has lots of items from willie Nelson and other major stars of country music. Well worth taking the time to visit.

My family and I came here for the first time to spend the day here. We were all very happy with all that this mall had here. Some of my favorite stores were: Bare Minerals, Pottery Barn, Bath & Body Works, Oakley, American Girl, Macy's. We enjoyed eating lunch at The Cheesecake Factory! There's also several stores that surround the mall that you can shop at as well. All in all, glad we came here and it was a great day!

Talk about location. Opry Mills is the largest outlet shopping mall in Tennessee with more 1.2 million square feet of floor space, more than 200 retail stores on a single level and at least two dozen restaurants inside and outside a giant food court. And it's all so convenient for locals and travelers and tourists who are looking to browse and bargain and barter. Located at 433 Opry Mills Drive, on the former site of the Opryland USA theme park, adjacent to the Grand Ole Opry House and the massive 2,888-room Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, situated between I-40 and I-65 on Briley Parkway, Opry Mills opened in 2000, temporarily closed in 2010-2012 due to flooding, then reopened on March 29, 2012. Parking is free and if you don't cater to country music, you can make reservations on the General Jackson Showboat, which operates on the Cumberland River and is docked just outside Opry Mills. Yes, the Kiosk operators sometimes can be annoying. But if you know where you're going, you can avoid them. Among the 200 stores are Saks Fifth Avenue, Tommy Bahama, Gap, Chico's, Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Bass Pro Shops, White House/Black Market, Verizon, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Coach, Calvin Klein, Disney, H&M, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Victoria's Secret, Cole Haan and Bed Bath & Beyond. Take a break at one of the many restaurants, including Burger King, Popeye's, Rainforest Cafe, Kelly's Cajun Grille, Johnny Rockets, Subway, Starbucks, TFI Friday's, Chili's, Haagen-Dazs, Dairy Queen and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. For Chicagoans who are accustomed to Woodfield Mall and Oak Brook and Old Orchard and Water Tower Place and Gurnee Mills, a day at Opry Mills is like old home week.
