This museum tells the story of brave Czech paratroopers who killed SS-Obergrupenführer Reinhard Heydrich in the Operation Anthropoid. Jan Kubiš and Josef Gabčík escaped to this church and the crypt under the church together with five more paratroopers and 20 days later they died here in battle against 700 Nazi soldiers.
This museum is a remembrance and memorial to the Czech resistance paratroopers, who during WWII, took part in a secret undercover plan to assassinate Hitler's favorite General, Reinhard Heydrich, head of the dreaded SS. These men, I believe there were seven, infiltrated behind the lines back into Prague where they hid out in the basement Crypt of the St Cyril Church. Eventually most most died during a ferocious fire-fight with the German army but they were responsible for Heydrich's death, and it's all a very interesting historical account of a little known event during WWII.

If you like planes it is must to see. This is outstanding museum full of aviation history at at outskirts of Prague founded in 1968 and based in former areal of the first first base of former Czechoslovakia, now military airport. The great collection currently includes 275 planes some of them world wide unique or rare planes type. The museum is divided into the different sections such as Jet planes, Czech built aircraft dating from WW I, aviation of World War II, helicopters on. Due to the extensive collection new space would be desirable to be added. It is unbelievable that this museum is for free. All the planes or showpieces are described in Czech and also English. There is also detached part of tge museum close by (around 1 KM ) in hangars of Stara Aerovka / Aero factory The museum is open in the summer season from May till October!!!. Stará Aerovka is part of The Aviation Museum Kbely. Bomber aircrafts and Aero production are exposed in historic hangars.
If you have an interest in aviation and aviation history in other countries make sure you visit this historical airfield and museum. It is a stones throw from the metro station at Letnany and just a short walk from the larger aviation museum at Kbely.

I toured the Cold War Museum and had the most amazing guide - David! He is extremely knowledgeable about the time period - key politicians, the political climate in (Czechoslovakia) and surrounding countries, and every day life for people living in Prague at that time. I grew up in the US during the 80's and there was always the specter of nuclear war w Russia. I remember stories of high profile people defecting. But-until visiting this museum, I just didn't have a good appreciation for life under the 'cruel star' of communism. The collection is fascinating - I especially loved seeing the spy equipment that was used at the time that enabled 'Big Brother' to listen in on conversations of hotel guests (the bunker was built below the hotel Jalta, as mentioned). Just fascinating! Prague is full of history - and I highly recommend this museum to enrich your visit. Note to David-I found that Amazon has the book "Under a Cruel Star". Also, as we discussed - check out Anne Applebaum - Iron Curtain! Thank you so much for a great tour!!
