Moreska Sword Dancing

Reviewed By 867ians - Kettering, United Kingdom

This is high energy dancing judging by the sweat pouring off the dancers! It tells through music and dance a fairly traditional tale. It’s a very impressive piece of theatre and we wouldn’t have missed it for anything. Takes place in the town at 9pm on Monday’s and Thursdays and tickets cost 100KN. My advice would be to buy tickets in advance from one of the travel agencies as this will get you in quicker. There were large queues at the door for tickets when we were there so must be even worse in peak season. Get there for 8.30 pm if you want a decent seat!

Swanky Monkey Garden

Swanky Monkey Garden is located in the true heart of Zagreb and offers guests an all in one experience. Its industrial design creates an attractive interior and exterior, cool vibes and a great atmosphere. This unique place was able to maintain the old feels from the days of being a dry cleaning factory, while creating an unforgettable experience with its two bars and three terraces. Guests can enjoy parties during the day and night every week, DJ’s, live bands or simply enjoy the breeze on the terrace. Swanky Monkey Garden is based on the concept of being authentic just like its rich cocktail selection and many other funky drink offerings. The staff is crazy, friendly and awesome and is waiting for you to come and enjoy our cool place!

I discovered the swanky monkey relatively late, after it had become the hit destination in Zagreb and popular place to take photos for instagram story. I was not disappointed. A great place for daily coffee, but also for a Friday nightout. Definitely positive change in Zagreb. I really like the interior, the waiters are quick and kind, the atmosphere is great. Swanky place in full meaning of that word :) Btw mohito is great ;)

Having visited the castle last week, we returned yesterday evening to experience the Medieval Nights in the Castle. The fun started in the square with the court jester introducing the assembled "crowd" to the course of events. This started with my son's teenage girl friend being selected as a potential candidate for marriage to the victor of the night's proceedings only to be rejected for being "too smelly". Oh well... she seemed to enjoy the humour here and got to sword fight one of the Knights at the end of the evening anyway. And he eventually surrendered so she got her revenge. The most part of the evening was conducted in the inner courtyard of the castle. Once again I was particularly impressed with the passion and energy that all the actors put into their various performances. The sparks flying from the clashing metal swords during the many fights were certainly real enough! It's also rare that I get to go to a real witch trial and subsequent burning. One to add to the bucket list. In addition to the "show" you can also buy some of the local produce on display at a handful of tables in the courtyard. Nothing touristy here - genuine local produce. We bought some olive oil to add to our burgeoning collection on this holiday. At the end of the evening with the castle lit up, we had a chance to chat with some of the actors. On the Wednesday we were there, the audience was below the maximum of 150 people allowed during these days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Normally they could expect to entertain up to 300 people. We do hope that they continue to get great patronage here. Given the high commitment they certainly deserve it! And for 360 Kuna (under 50€) for four people (and a dog) we felt that we got an excellent evening of genuine, local entertainment.
