The museum om Christian art in Heraklion is a little gem. The church in this museum is placed is a very beautiful building and gives you a religious experience. And the collection of icons is very impressive. They are all very interesting and beautiful. The context they are made which is described gives you a lot more than just to look at them. It is not a museum that takes a lot of time but sticks in your memory of as a light and happy experience. It can be highly recommended.

This small museum, tucked away beside the Catholic Church, near the port area, is very well worth a visit. It packs into three or four small rooms items that show Cretan life until the very recent past. The memorabilia are fascinating and well laid out. The curator works on site, using an old sewing machine to produce elaborate tapestries of historical scenes, which adorn one small room. At 2 euros entrance, it is delightful and very informative.

We enjoyed the walk from the bottom of the village to the museum as there were almost no cars nor people around. The road was very quiet and it was nice to see the orange, pomegranate and fig trees aling the way. The museum (birthplace of El Greco) was quite small but quite picturesque and worth the 10-15 minutes we spent looking at the newspaper articles and replicas of his paintings. At the bottom of the village there are many restaurants and we also enjoyed looking at the wild geese and ducks as we ate next to the stream.
