A few minutes walk from Barnard Castle, Deepdale Wood is one of Teesdale's finest and most beautiful woodlands. The nature reserve is privately owned and is managed for nature conservation by volunteers. Responsible public access is encouraged, and there is a good network of footpaths with footbridges and stepping stones across the Deepdale Beck and the Ray Gill.

The disused railway is a great walk and is easy fo all abilities. We walked from Mickleton to Middleton and also in the opposite direction to Romaldkirk. If you like walking, this is an enjoyable path away from traffic.

Hidden from view and only occasionally open to the public, we’re now able to walk on designated routes through the estate. Many miles of paths have been built or repaired so you can spend a number of hours walking here, just make sure you wear appropriate foot wear. No facilities so make sure you’re prepared.
