Cornwall is the extreme southwestern peninsula of England. It has the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain and it is one of the sunniest areas in the UK. With picturesque villages, Celtic ruins, light blue waters, gardens and parks and unique architecture it certainly is among the most scenic areas of England. Home of many events and festivals and the land of Cornish pasty, it is definitely worth visiting.

Described as one of the prettiest in England, this church sits proudly on the waters edge amongst sub-tropical trees and shrubs.
The churchyard described as ‘the most beautiful in the world’ is just that. A palm filled tropical woodland with green moss and fern it winds down the hill of tiered graves of beautiful calligraphy and Celtic crosses. Wirth taking time to meander through. At the bottom is this small picturesque church steeped in history on the waters edge . So atmospheric and peaceful it was a truly magical setting that made you want to linger soaking in every bit . Truly memorable and a joy to see. Then head on up the slope for a slap up cream tea at Mrs T’s at the top. PERFECT afternoon!

This Cornish church was a personal must do. It is beautiful church that generations of my family had frequented before they came to NZ and Australia in the 1940s. I wish that I knew more about them and which graves were my direct ancestors. Inside the church I gazed at the frescoes and the helmets that generations before had seen. What a perfect church.

Our family lived here for centuries. In the mid 19th century, several migrated to Canada, then US. Built just after William the Conqueror (1066) Our families visited St Eval a few years ago and the Parish had a special service for us and our ancestors What a GREAT experience! What a warm & generous people. A special prayer for us as we held hands over the original baptismal fount (cir. 1100). St. Eval has a VERY special place in our hearts!???? Ed From CA

A truly remarkable church, take time out to visit, yes a steep hill to climb out of Port Isaac, Church Hill or as we call it heart attack hill and just following the road turning left at the T junction. From the outside it may look shut but push open the front door, it is heavy, so give it a big push and enter. So peaceful and take a moment to reflect in the peace and quiet or light a candle for those lost ones. Look upwards to see the wonderful roof timbers and marvel at curved one of the walls is! Wander round and look at the dates on the tombs inside and outside to get a glimpse of the history of the place. They do hold events here, a current brochure list forthcoming events and workshops, they do say the acoustics there are very good.

Having an hour or so free before our timed visit to Tintagel Castle we decided to take a quick stroll up to St Materiana's church as we have always looked over to it and wished we had more time to visit. An easy walk up the road to the gorgeously positioned little church with it's church yard full of history and stories. It's location right on the South West Coast Path is brilliant with such stunning views in every direction. The church itself is a tranquil spot and perfect to sit for a moments quiet reflection and to light a candle for remembrance and prayer. So glad we made the visit and then down the hill to the castle.
