Things to do in Copenhagen, Zealand: The Best Art Galleries

February 18, 2022 Timmy Ribble

Copenhagen was once a Viking fishing settlement, and you can still find traces of the Norse explorers here. Visit reconstructed villages, the remains of a 1,000-year-old castle, and museums dedicated to the notorious raiders. Copenhagen also features a blend of modern architecture and historical artifacts such as the Round Tower observatory – a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture. Art galleries, narrow streets, canals, parks, and Baroque churches round out the city’s cultural attractions.

Ann Linnemann Gallery

Reviewed By Q1258FEdp - London, United Kingdom

Ann Linnemann is an internationally highly regarded ceramic artist and her gallery represents her work, that of other well established ceramic artists and interesting up and coming artists from Denmark and around the world. The work is mostly art pieces with some 'functional' tableware. The quality of the work is superb and the prices are fair given the high standard of both craft and artistry. The gallery is a contemporary space within an old building that houses both gallery and artist's studio. Prices range from about £40 for a cup to considerably more for art pieces. It is located in the quiet but well connected Nyboder area of the city and a visit there will take you past the beautiful ochre coloured former Naval barracks built by Christian IV to accommodate members of the Royal Danish Navy and their families.

Den Frie.

Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is the house of the artists and shows exhibitions that are produced, initiated or chosen by artists. Den Frie is especially focused on contemporary artistic communities, collective exhibitions, artists associations and experimental groups and networks. The house is built by artists for artists and today strives to make an interesting and varied exhibition programme, that challenges the exceptional architecture of the building. 10 exhibitions are shown each year, most of them group exhibitions. Apart from those, soloexhibitions with either younger, promising artists or artists, that have made important contributions to art history are presented.
