It is the county seat and largest city of Putnam County and home to Tennessee Technological University. Of the twenty micropolitan areas in Tennessee, Cookeville is the largest; the Cookeville micropolitan area's 2010 Census population was 106,042.

A waiter at a local restaurant recommended the Paris Winery for a wine tasting visit. We were very glad we went there. The wines were just perfect to our taste preferences. My wife loved the drys, and I loved the sweets. They have two different berry wines that were the best. Port not bad either. They have wine in a bottle that looked like a Music City fiddle. And be sure to try their olive oil. It was really good The server was quite talkative, friendly, and funny. We had such a good time we returned a second day, and bought more wine.
