Wayward Distillery is a True Craft distillery located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Balancing tradition with creativity, Wayward is the first distillery in Canada using honey as the base for all of its spirits. With this as a curious starting point, the only obvious direction to take is an unpredictable one. Our signature Unruly Vodka and Unruly Gin are beautiful, hand-crafted examples of what can happen when unruly people meet unruly bees. Couple this with our seasonally changing, ultra-small batch experimental Wayward Order Line and you will truly understand our need to break moulds and blaze trails. Welcome to our Wayward life. Welcome to Wayward Distillery.
Their spirits are excellent, if you do anything in Courtney, go here. Perfect rainy day activity and next time I will bring my lady friend.

Coastal Black is a family owned and operated fruit winery and meadery. All our wines are hand-crafted on site with our own berries and honey. Come for a visit and enjoy a tasting and pizza! Our own Brick Oven Italian Style Pizza is now open for the summer season! Our new menu is posted on our Facebook wall - please, come join us for lunch and wine.We would love to welcome EVERYONE through our doors at Coastal Black, but being a winery, it is more of an adult oriented environment. We don't mind families coming and bringing children, we simply ask that they be respectful of the other patrons and try to maintain the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Also because the Winery is more adult focussed, we don't have child specific amenities (ie: juice, highchairs, toys etc) so please be aware of this as well. Thanks so much for your time, and we hope to see you out for some delicious wine!

In September 2019, Beaufort became the first organically certified vineyard on Vancouver Island. Winemaker Freya Timmermans crafts the vintage in small batches for a unique expression of our Island’s cool coastal climate. Expect youthful, fruit-driven reds, and lively, aromatic whites. Please see website, call, or email ahead for up-to-date info on store hours and tastings in 2020.
Walked through the beautiful gardens full of lavender to the tasting room where we were greeted very warmly. There is a selection of 5 of the approximately 12 wines that are produced here that are one at any one time for tasting. On our visit, it was 3 whites and 2 reds. The staff member who helped us with the tasting (sorry didn't get a name) was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. Although the wines are not inexpensive, they are delicious. We particularly appreciated the Petite Milo - which is a grape especially bred for Vancouver Island. There is a nice picnic area on the deck, so one could quite happily bring lunch and buy a nice bottle to go with it.

In the heart of the Comox Valley, on a slope facing the Georgia Strait, 40 Knots Vineyard & Estate Winery crafts wines distinctly shaped by a windswept, sun-soaked microclimate. Named for the gale force winds that often strike the coast, 40 Knots embraces its unique microclimate, adorning its label with swallows that frequent the vineyard and depict home to a sailor. With wines like Whitecaps, Sea Haven, and Spindrift, the connection to the wind and sea is undeniable. 40 Knots was first established in 2005, by a retired Tug Boat Captain who hand planted over 50,000 vines on glacier till soil in a micro-climate hotter than its surrounding area and facing the Salish Sea. Root stock was brought in from the Champagne and Cote D'Beaune regions of France of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay Noir. Additionally hybrids such as the French Pinot Auxerrois and German Siegerrebe and Schoenberger were planted. Owners Brenda Hetman-Craig, and Layne Robert Craig continue to nurture this terroir with environmentally ethical farming practices. 40 Knots employs the creative, innovative and esteemed Chief Wine Maker Matt Dumayne of Okanagan Crush pad. 40 Knots welcomes visitors to come and taste their wines in their cellar tasting lounge, tour the vineyard and cellar and picnic in the beautiful vineyard terrace.
My husband and I had a wonderful Premium Tasting with Jenn. We loved learning about the history of the Winery, as well as the types of varietals grown there and were in awe of its unique and beautiful location. The four wines that we tasted were all enjoyable.... so much so I came home with a few bottles and a few jars of pickled grapes. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience- we will be back again. Cheers from the Interior of BC. Alan & Shirley Boon
