Things to do in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia: The Best Bus Tours

September 12, 2021 Hana Mouser

There are 2,000 years of history in Cologne, and visitors here will find everything from Roman towers to Gothic churches to fine examples of modern architecture. Cologne has a variety of museums, too—check out the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum Ludwig and, if you have a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Museum. Be forewarned, though—the gift shop at the latter will utterly ruin your diet.

This fairly leisurely tour combines beautiful mountain scenery with a visit to Monschau, the picture-postcard town in the German Eifel. However, the focus of our tour is on the discovery of the historic city centre of ancient Cologne. We travel with you through history: from the Roman remains and the impressive medieval buildings we take you to modern Cologne, a most elegant shopping paradise Our guide takes you on a (very) easy walk in Monschau along the picturesque river bank from where most of the main sights can be enjoyed. During your free time you can taste the local sweet: Aachner Printen. We drive to Cologne. Apart from Christmas markets and Carnival, Cologne has so much more to offer. After lunch we start our walk at the Neumarkt in the heart of the old city. We only mention the highlights of our guided walk: the cathedral, the City Hall, the Roman walls, the Roman and Germanic museum, the beautiful banks of the Rhine and much more!

I am living in Munich for almost 4 years now. You can visit all these places with "Bayern ticket" that costs 26 euros. Why you ask from people that price... For 5 hours tour? Are you saying that the guide is worth 200 euros? Please reduce the price to 100 euros and be fair for the tourists.

I was looking for an off the beaten path tour and came across Tulip Day Tours. From the moment I made the tour reservation, I just have to say that the service was awesome. The Dutch weather is unpredictable, and Marloes would email me few days beforehand informing me about the upcoming weather forecast and leave it to me to decide whether to proceed/postpone/cancel the trip as she wanted me to have the best experience on the island. We finally made it after 3 postponements (my choice) and boy, what an awesome trip! Corona measures were in place from the moment I was picked up - I got my temperature checked, hand sanitized and the mini van was installed with screens. Marloes also prepared a breakfast bag which I enjoyed on the way to the ferry. It was my first time on an e-bike and it is seriously the best way to explore the island. With Marloes guiding, I cycled through meadows with grazing sheep and cows, along the island coast and in the forest. We made pitstops in cute little villages and I also had a delicious pancake with local cheese and beer. Marloes would tell me fun facts about the island and also little things that might go unnoticed for visitors in the Netherlands. I had a great time on the island with Marloes. I rank this trip high on my travel experience. Truly I was so happy with the trip I did not hesitate to book their Giethoorn and Kayaking trip!
