South Solitary Island is located approximate 18km offshore from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. The island consists of a lighthouse and keeper's quarter's which were built in 1880 and considered the oldest in the area. The island was abandoned in 1975 when the lighthouse was automated with all residents leaving the island at that time. We were staying at Korora Beach just a bit further north. The beach is full of pebbles and rocks. We happened to fine Diggers Beach which is just lovely. Great white sand, plenty of room for everyone and a nice little wave. There is a couple of lookouts so that the surfers and check out the surf, plenty of parking, nice picnic facilities as well as a modern amenities block.

Ulidarra National Park

Reviewed By Aditya71 - Bundanoon, Australia

To be completely legit' you'll need a private car or a hired 4WD, as access is by 'unsealed road' that hire car companies don't generally want you on. Road conditions were good, and you get to explore a range of forest types, and can do an easy and short walk to Bangalore Falls. Probably not great for 2WD in wet conditions. I was chuffed to see Araucariaceae (native pines) for the first time this far south.

Solitary Islands Aquarium

The Solitary Islands Aquarium, located at Southern Cross University's National Marine Science Centre, serves as an important community asset helping to bring an awareness and appreciation for our marine environment through education and science. Our facility is focused on regional species, resource management and conservation. The aquarium provides an intimate experience for visitors to learn about and to interact with marine life of the Coffs Coast through our series of aquariums, presentations, and visual displays.

We spent a fascinating few hours exploring the marine life of the Coffs Coast. The displays were visually stunning and showcased the diversity found. The kids loved the 'treasure hunt' activity that kept them searching from display to display and learning the names of the animals. They also loved the activity area where they could get hands and learn. Definitely worth a visit.

Coffs Harbour Muttonbird Island

Reviewed By kellylK7127UE - Ocean Shores, Australia

I last visited Muttonbird Island about 25 years ago, and I'm very pleased to say that I don't believe it's changed much in that time. It was a relatively easy, very pleasant walk from the marina to the island and up a paved path to the top of the island where the views are stunning. Sunset is definitely the time to visit! Whale watching is also a given at the right time of year.

The surf beach is very flat and so the water is easily accessible. Just around the corner the river enters the sea and so there is a variety of swimming options. Great for young families too.

North Coast Regional Botanic Garden

A beautiful botanic garden which incorporates several natural ecosystems and forest and specifically planted areas containing many rare Australian and worldwide species. The planted Australian rainforest is a highlight and is readily accessible with raised boardwalks. We saw a lot of different birds which have made their homes here due to the variety of flowering and fruiting trees. There are also a lot of water birds in the lake and in the bordering Coffs Creek. This is a very well planned garden which is largely run by volunteers.
