Cody, named for its legendary founder, Buffalo Bill Cody, remains as full of Old West adventure as it was during the days when Bill himself roamed Wyoming. Serving as the Eastern gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Cody is just a few miles away from pristine wilderness where actual buffalo can still be seen. The town attracts tourists and cowboys alike with reenactments of famous shoot-outs, restored frontier buildings and with the Cody Stampede, which the town hosts every July 4.

So well laid out, easy to get around, great works of art, one of the world’s most extensive gun collections and priceless treasures to teach us about our American Indian ancestors & the colorful Buffalo Bill Cody.

Another part of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. This has great information on the American Indians. Make time to read the information and watch the videos.

By Western Hands (BWH) aims to preserve western heritage and design through the celebration of past and present artisans. Our three-part mission to preserve, promote, and educate the public about the importance of western design and traditional arts, corresponds with three main elements--a museum and archive, internship training program, and member gallery. Museum and Archive: The Museum and arc
This is a co-op formed by a number of Cody area furniture craftsmen. Some create furniture in recognized styles (i.e., Molesworth); others create beautiful and unique pieces from local woods reflecting both natural forms and their imaginative craftsmanship. Nothing is cheap, but considering the amount of time/workmanship that goes into each piece, prices are extremely fair.

A local Cody, WY history museum that focuses on areas such as: Town founding, early town and area businesses, ranching/farming/agriculture, oil, and gas/railroads, tourism/rodeo/cowboys, and early Cody families. The design of the displays is chronological, from the pre-settlement period through the town establishment, WWI and WWII, and on thru the 1950s. The Museum is housed in the historic DeMaris House in downtown Cody, next to the Park County Courthouse. An all-volunteer Board of Directors has spent over a decade formulating plans for the Museum, raising and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars restoring and saving the building, and designing a unique interior layout to tell the story of this unique western town. The Cody Heritage Museum opened its doors in May of 2018.
Very nice albeit small museum. Displays are very well done, and capture the history of the Cody, WY area with more of a local slant. Great Staff, nice to chat with, and very reasonable admission cost. Support this local museum so they can continue their mission to tell the story of Cody, without Bill. Your support will help it grow.
