Itsukushima Shrine

The famous shrine built on stilts with its torii gate set in the sea.

Reviewed By Sparkie09 - Goa, India

Was such an experience visiting this shrine in Miyajima...walking through the path and an old gate and the sight of the floating Tori gate in the sea and the temple itself on stilts...to beat the high tides.

Atomic Bomb Dome

This skeleton of a building is all that remains in the area where the first atomic bomb exploded on August 6, 1945, and serves as a symbol of both the horrors of atomic war and the hope for world peace.

The Atomic Bomb Dome is a well maintained piece of history that should be visited by everyone. It is preserved also for future generations. Words cannot describe this place, just have to go for yourself

Matsue Castle

Matsue symbol Matsue Castle is said to be one of the national treasures and one of the only orthodox towers among the 12 towers that exist throughout the country. Matsue Castle can be proud, please enjoy.

Reviewed By jeffreygalino - Hiroshima, Japan

If you are into history and culture, you should visit this castle. The structure is still in its original form. It looks unique compared to other Japanese castles for its black color. Discounted ticket price is given to foreigners. A panoramic view of Matsue City is seen from top.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Reviewed By Komator - Barcelona, Spain

The Peace Memorial park is an area where you can walk and remember the horrors of the war by seeing several points: Genbaku Dome, Eternal Flame of Peace, Peace Flame or the Children's Peace Monument. Memories come and it's a good moment to think about what we have done (and still do) as a society.

Bitchu Matsuyama Castle

Reviewed By BZimm08 - Iwakuni, Japan

Bitchu Matsuyama Castle is considered the highest castle above sea level in Japan. This castle is one of the originals and well worth a visit. There is a parking lot before the castle. Unfortunately visitors must either walk the road up or take a shuttle which is 400 Yen, I chose to walk the road, it was not that long and pretty easy. I really liked this castle, it's smaller then others. I found it unique how the builders used the environment (hills and rocks) to construct the castle, it's evident how this was done. I recommend the small fee to enter the castle. We are cat lovers so the highlight for us was Sanjuro, the cat. He made his way up here due to flooding in the area years ago and has been the local mascot since, so cute!

Tsuwano Castle

Reviewed By BZimm08 - Iwakuni, Japan

The Tsuwano Castle ruins was one of the highlights of visiting Tsuwano and I highly recommend coming here. There are a few options of getting to the top, you can hike or take a chair lift. It looks as if they are building a road closer so parking near the ruins, might be another option in the future. I opted for the chair lift since I have yet to do that in Japan. You can take the lift back down or hike. Once at the top, you do have to hike a little to get to the actual ruins but it is a fairly easy hike. The ruins and locations are incredible. The views from each ledge is gorgeous. The ruins itself are massive, I wish I could see what it would have been like when built up. The Tsuwano Castle ruins are easily one of my favorites in Japan.

Itsukushima Shrine Torii

Reviewed By danielncf0717 - Taipei, Taiwan

What pops into people's mind when one thinks of the country Japan? Mt Fuji, Hot Spring, Kimono, the list goes on and on, and I bet a lot of people will think of Japanese Torii Gates, the beautiful architectures commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine. If you like Torii and you are planning to go to Hiroshima, don't ever miss this magnificent Torii in the sea! On the island Miyajima, there is this famous Itsukushima Shrine with an enormous Torii in the sea, and if you stay long enough and time it right, you can approach it when the tide goes out. It's currently under renovation though
