At The Arts Centre Mākete you’ll find local artisans showcasing their quality, handmade goods – arts and crafts, freshly made delicacies and more. Set against the backdrop of the historical Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora, the market offers a relaxing Sunday shopping experience in the heart of the city. This mākete, which is proudly supported by Christchurch City Council through the Enliven Places Projects Fund, runs from 10.00am to 3.00pm every Sunday in winter.
This Sunday only market is a small little market with vendors and food trucks. We especially liked the soap vendor. What we did like is across the street there are woodworker shops and souvenir stores in that little area. Also the building next-door has some wonderful stores inside in the upper floors. So make sure you explore the whole area when you go.

We were lucky enough to be in Christchurch on a Sunday and made our way out to Riccarton. Why? We love a market. This is one of my favourite types of markets where most of the stalls are selling second hand goods or items they have made themselves. There are also plenty of stalls and vans selling great food and coffee. I challenge you to leave this market without buying anything. It is also a fabulous setting with most of the stalls under a canopy of huge trees.

Excellent food options from different countries reflective of the culture of the people who have helped with the rebuild of the city. I was on a day's business trip from Auckland and was recommended to try the food stalls. Lots of flavours and colours of the food. I tried the vegetarian empanada from the little Mexican truck... Quantity, quality and price were perfect. This market is just in front of the ruins of the Cathedral and the rebuilt tramway- another sign of the resilience of the people of mighty Christchurch. If you are there on a Friday, I highly recommend this market as a Must-visit.
New Brighton Seaside Market has a warm & enjoyable atmosphere. With live entertainment, delicious food, a great variety of stalls, games and activities for the littlies and free face painting.
