Baidicheng or White Emperor City is an ancient temple complex located at the entrance to the Three Gorges on a hill overlooking Qutang Gorge. Beautiful buildings and lots to see. Many steps to get up there. Lovely views.

My first ever one day trip to the 816 Nuclear Military Plant (816地下核工厂), Baitao Town, Fuling District, Chongqing, China (中国重庆涪陵区白涛镇), which is far away from my school, and I took a Didi to get a High-Speed train from Chongqing North Railway station to Fuling North Railway station. 816 Nuclear Military Plant (816地下核工厂) located at Baitao Town, Fuling District, Chongqing, China. As the most extensive underground tunnel system globally, part of the third line of defense against Soviet military threat. The construction began in 1966 and was almost finished, but the project was canceled in 1984 due to changing geopolitical factors (a decline of the Soviet Union) and chemical waste treatment issues. Since no plutonium or other radioactive materials were processed here, it is safe and open for visitors, both Chinese and foreign. . . ©chongqingeatery

This museum documents an important period of China’s history with Chongqing as the wartime capital and headquarters of the Nationalists. General Stilwell played a pivitol role on behalf of the USA government keeping both the Nationalists and Communists supplied to fight the Japanese. Chongqing was bombed on 218 days resulting in heavy losses and damage to the city. Chongqing was supplied during this period by a massive airlift from India over the mountains known as the hump. In turn defended by volunteer USA fighter pilots imbedded in the Chinese airforce. Good to be reminded of a time when USA and China worked and sacrificed together for the greater good, something which the Chongqing locals have not forgotten.

Ciqikou is an old town which has now turned into a tourist spot. The street is full of shops lining at both sides selling all sorts of things from handicraft, souvenir, food to ear cleaning service. You can actually spend a whole day here if you are looking for things to shop. Just stop at each shop and savor the goodies sample, drink tea at some tea houses, pamper your ear by allowing the expert to clean it for you. Highly recommended for shoppers alike.

The best part of the town is the river. Nothing to write home about for a foreigner, but Chongqing people come to this town to experience the cute old town and the river. Chongqing has much more impressive rivers, Yangtze and Jialing, but this one is only a foot or two deep and goes through the town center. Kids can safely play in the river and take inflatable boat rides down the river. There is a return service at the end. Restaurants have tables and chairs in the river. One can sit there on a hot summer day and enjoy food or a beverage with his/her feet in the (not so) cool water. It is a glimpse of old China in a driving distance from the big city. The services for foreign travelers may not be the greatest in the world because this is not meant to be that. Chongqing "city people" come there, but a foreigner is a rare sight. I happen to have a friend whose family owns a house overlooking the village and the valley. Sitting on the patio late in the night, watching the mountains on the other side is just pure magic. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're in Chongqing and want to see some "real old China", this might be your spot. PS. They also have the nicest cops in the world..... PPS. There was a question about when did I visit this place. The only option was a MM/YYYY answer. I visit this place frequently.
