One of China's most celebrated scenic areas, Laoshan presents a panorama of mountains, cliffs, waterfalls and temples.
Snow capped peaks in winter! Perfect time to visit with barely any visitors. Spectacular views from the top! Great for hikers. We caught the 104 bus which starts at Taidong and travels down to the Xianggang West and Xianggang East Road (the West road becomes the East Road) along the coast until you reach Laoshan about 35km away. The cost is RMB3 from Taidong (terminus) to the Tourism Office of Laoshan. You just hop on and the ticket lady will tell you the correct fare to pay her. You need to book your tickets to the Laoshan scenic areas at the Tourism office before entering the park. Cost is RMB120 pp (low season) and RMB90 for students. Peak is RMB150 and RMB105 respectively. We then took one of the private driver’s offer of RMB300 for the day and she took us along the coast to see the Frog Rock, Laozhi statue, a look out to the Tea plantation and then Huayan Temple where we did a hike for a 1.5 hour round trip up the mountain. The temple was only 20mins walk up. We started at 10am and returned to Taidong around 6pm. The bus trip was 1hr in the morning (no traffic) but 2 hrs on the way back (peak weekday traffic). The private drivers speaks virtually no English and will try to take you to tea houses to sample teas and coerce you to buy or encourage you to eat at one of the restaurants. They won’t force you so gently decline if you are not interested. Note: there are no food options other than these restaurants so bring snacks or eat a good breakfast before you head out!!

When you stay in Lijiang, you can’t help but notice Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. So it is great to know that you can travel up it. I hired a driver through the Hilton Garden Inn for 500RMB. She picked me up at 7.30am and dropped me off at 7pm. We did Yulong Glaciers, Yak Meadow and Baisha Ancient Village, including the Embroidery Museum. Long day, but worth it. 130RMB to enter the Park. 100RMB (I think) for the cable car up to glaciers. There’s a queue to get on the bus. A queue to buy your ticket and a queue to get on the cable car. Once you are finally in the cable car it is awesome. I was lucky. We had occasional breaks in the clouds and once up amongst the glaciers - it was amazing. I really loved the altitude signs. When the wind blows it is certainly fresh, but in July the puffy jacket was over the top.

Lots to sightseeing and photo opportunities in this 860 hectare national park. Said to have the highest oxygen content air in Fuzhou. Nice hiking paths. Rated as one of China's top ten forest parks. A few visitors were having picnics.

Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area , lying to the north of Zhangjiajie City, is a charming tourist attraction. It is one of the 40 famous scenic spots in China. It is said to be 'The ampliative miniascape and the contractible fairyland' and was admitted to the 'World Heritage List' in 1992. The Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area boasts of natural beauty where mountains, valleys, forests, caves, lakes and waterfalls exist in total harmony. Over 560 attraction sights can be found here. The strangely-shaped peaks, the absurd stones, the hidden valleys, the wonderful waters and the limestone caves form the 'Five Wonders' of Wulingyuan and they are really worth seeing. Covering an area of 690 square kilometers (266 square miles), Wulingyuan Scenic Area consists of four parts- Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve and the newly added Yangjiajie Scenic Area. For those having to aloof difficulties can find it challenging despite there are buses in between the sites as well as cable car. The walking around the mountain could be challenging. You would also find some spots that you can see the monkey and be careful of your phones . They will snatch from you treated as food! Enjoy..

Visited and stayed here for 2 nights. It was a wonderful experience but the cold can be Super cold like -27 deg Celsius. We had to wear at least 4 to 5 layers on top and 3 layers pants. There are skiing, tubing down slopes, horse and dog sleds... but I didn’t go for animal rides. I just spent RMB 50 per person to enjoy unlimited tubes down the slopes and it was fun enough. Visiting China Snow Town can be very cheap. But as I browse through the internet and travel apps, the tours are quite expensive for the same travel period. I DIY-ed and it was a lot cheaper. Be careful of tour agencies, chartered car Drivers trying to recommend you “cheaper tickets” and pushing you to buy snow activity packages at cheaper rates... just don’t get conned. They have a Long list of activities, but if the weather is Super cold I doubt I could last Long out in the cold to complete those activities anyway. There’s village procession and fireworks every night. All in all, this is a wonderful place to visit.
